Most people living on the continent of Asia aren’t East Asian or genetically related to them. Certainly Indians look closer to Europeans than they do East Asians. Their languages are also closer to European.

Has everything to do with it. It proves Asian like Hispanic or Latino isn’t a race. It’s not even a culture. It’s many cultures and races. And Russians and Indians are apart of that fabric.

The Asian Russians who mostly live in the Asian part of Russia (Siberia) are NOT the same as the European Russians who live in Western Russia (Eastern Europe).
Asian Russians are also a minority of the population and generally when most people say "Russian" they are talking about ethnic Russians aka the Russians who are White/European (especially from the Slavic ethnic group). Most Russians both historically and presently are culturally & ethnically European.

"ethnically Asian" means any ethnic group that is indigenous to the continent of Asia.
Most Russians are of Slavic origin. Slavs are NOT indigenous to Asia but are to Europe. Thus, Slavic people are European.

There are no ethnic groups “indigenous” to Asia. Humans are indigenous to Africa and migrated to Asia. So that’s a non starter.
