Why are people entertaining a Janet vs. Beyonce? It won't happen and even if it did, it could go either way. Remove the bias on either side and look at it objectively and the way most of these have played. It is 20 songs. Both of them have 20 songs that they could pull from their respective catalogs that would be competitive. It wouldn't be a blow out in either direction. Janet has better albums, but that's irrelevant, this isn't about catalogs or who is the better artist. Its about which artist puts up the better 20 songs. Most of these weren't judged by chart positions, it was about which songs connected CULTURALLY. Both of them have songs that hit on that level. You could detest Beyonce's remake of "Before I Let Get", but you can't front on that song being played at receptions, barbecues, and family gatherings. It didn't make much of a dent on the charts, but it was big culturally.

The underrated of Janet has to stop though. While she hasn't really had the big records like that since 2006, she still has some gems. "No Sleeep" is still dope and that was 2015.

Rihanna is laughable. Yeah, she has a plethora of #1's, but most of her biggest songs would not work in a Verzuz. She would lose in a Verzuz. A song like "Disturbia" would not work.

Who is the better artist or who has the better albums is subjective to a certain extent

We have our own preferences

And yes ppl like to downplay Janet, same as thecoli likes to downplay Bey's artistry and accolades

Agree tho, nobody is washing no one

Fact is both ladies have been extremely successful and have made a big impact. They both have albums and records that are highly regarded by critics and the gp

Agree with you about Rihanna...Distrubia ...Umberella ....Rude Boy arent goin to cut it

I'm a woman

And why does someone admiring or complimenting Beyonce the artist bother some of yall so much

So weird lol

Because Beyonce has ascended to a level at which she has become overrated. By this I mean saying she's at or surpassed Michael Jackson level. There are those who actually push that idea. So a lot of the push back is not necessarily against Beyonce herself, but moreso the rabid fan base and the media who push Beyonce to that level.

There's conspiracies that she somehow sabotaged all of these females to get to the level she's at when it couldn't be further from the truth. R&B groups were a done deal by 2005. By 2010, R&B as a whole was no longer as popular unless you were making crossover Pop influenced R&B.

Bruh. It’s not just that shyt had better albums. Albums like Control is like an album full of hits. Like the whole fukkin album bruh. And u sleepin on how much women swear by Rihanna as well. Disturbia is a banger. On the flip side u actin like Bey ain’t got a bunch of bullshyt singles herself.

Breh, it doesn't matter how many hits are on a single album, its about which 20 the artist picks and the strategy in playing them.

My post wasn't on the quality of the singles. I never said "Disturbia" was wack. It just wouldn't work in a Verzuz for the same reason that a song like "Run The World" wouldn't work.

No. Why? Verzuz is R&B/Hip Hop leaning. I doubt she would even touch that song.
Bruh. Her crazy ass fans would bug out if she ain’t play that shyt. Lol. Beyonce career is mad Anthems. So it’s just a bunch more of the same unless she focuses more on her early solo career and Destiny Child shyt. I mean she got shyt like Party which is fire and Drunk In Love. Partition. Bey def got joints.

Michael is the standard

And assessing the overall impact of who Beyonce is and what she’s doing (i.e. Coachella, Black Is King), she has gotten to a place where it’s the only kind of comparison that really fits

And like you were alluding to, rnb lost a lot of its popularity. So it's actually a testament to her versatility and work ethic that she is still relevant when her peers like Usher and Akeys are still trying to regain their footing

I get some fans can be a turn off

And her music may not appeal to everyone, but that doesnt make her overrated necessarily

I'd argue moreso than anything she is underrated, especially as a vocalist, by th gp

No Michael is not the standard and it’s far from the only comparison that fits. You going to disrespect Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin Whitney Houston, Janet? Anytime you compare an artist not named Prince to MJ you’re overrating them, there will never be another MJ, his superstardom will not be matched in my lifetime and anyone who grew up as a kid watching dude would attest to that.

She shouldn’t be compared to MJ period.

The Beyonce/MJ shyt is BEYOND ridiculous for a plethora of reasons. There is literally NO comparison and people need to cut the bullshyt out because it’s NEVER gonna happen. MJ was something the music industry will never see again and hadn’t seen before him.

Michael was very talented

And what he accomplished commercially and artistically was groundbreaking and what most artist strive towards

Of course he is the standard

So naturally there will be comparisons

That said, he is not God or was he untouchable

If ppl see Michael in Bey they are entitled to their opinion...not hurting you and it's not some erasure of his legacy lol

Not seeing how its disrespectful to an Aretha or Whitney. They werent known for their visuals and dancing

It's very clear Michael and Tina are her biggest influences...Diana to a lesser extent
