I don’t think this happens to that extent. Cause nearby Irvington/Newark are pretty known gang cities as well and I’ve walked around these places and people keep to themselves unless they see you are part of something.
Naw not in my experience and especially not in places where people’s exposure to anything outside of their own community is extremely limited. SF for example is obviously a “big city” but the hoods are isolated to the point that simply walking through somewhere like Sunnydale is like stepping into a fish tank that is sealed off from the rest of the room. You’re at the mercy of whatever the temperature there that day is... Sometimes it’s cool but sometimes cards get pulled, and if you’re an outsider it will probably be yours. The people there don’t give you the benefit of the doubt to simply be somebody passing through, there
is a reason you’re there and if you’re lucky they’ll ask you “what are you doing here” before it escalates.
In Oakland on the other hand people mind their business period. The most people do is nod at you and see if you nod back, even in the projects. The only way somebody tries you is if you look like a lick, in which case youre either prepared to defend yourself or give that expensive shyt up
Philly feel just like Oakland on that level while Chicago is somewhere that you need to be locked in with people from there just to be moving around whether you look broke or not.
