there's no way in hell he is the GOAT. he belongs in the bottom 10 of careers, though. kubrick and hitchock are the only real GOAT contenders, with 3 more directors not named coppola rounding out the top five. after that, he belongs somewhere between 5-10.

Regarding Coppola, it's weird. The Godfather is my favorite film, and Part II, The Conversation and Apocalpyse Now are clearly masterpieces, but I don't think I'd have him in my top 20 because the fall off was so heavy.
That's not to say he didn't make anything good since the 70s. Rumblefish is excellent and recently he's had somewhat of a renaissance. Tetro in particular is good. But his lows have been so bad I almost find hard to take him serious.
