As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

I mean look at Hayes and Pompey for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

They actively come up with reasons for fans not to watch, some true some fabricated, and then publish them as journalism.

There’s no more rim protection. It’s a layup line at the rim

There’s really not many defenders in the nba.

It’s never been easier to score
most rim protectors bring zero offensively and nothing defensively on the perimeter

I'm in my 40's now, and I realized that people my age just hate everything now lol. Music, sports, clothes, TV etc everything "sucks". We were young so shyt made us feel something.

:childplease:

This is America… damn near everything cheapens over time for the sake of a dollar. Music was better in the 60s/70s than it was in the 80s/90s. The 90s had better music than post 2010. Clothes and appliances were made better in yesteryear. Food was better, etc etc…. It ain’t hate, it’s a factual observation

Might as well get rid of 3s.

I think it would be more fun to watch as a sport if they did.

I know that they never will and there are some decent reasons for them not to.

But with expanding (or shrinking?) the restricted area as well?

It would be a pretty different looking game, but I think a more athletic and exciting one.

People wouldnt stop shooting, but they wouldnt be taking a step back to some arbitrary line when they are wide open.

Bruh you don’t have a team you’re a casual who doesn’t have the attention span to watch games

What you wanna be basketball elitists don’t realize is that the “casual” fan is what makes the product viable, and once you start losing the casual fan, the first thing you need to look at is the product. I do t think viewership is down over 40 percent, but there has been a significant decline over the last 3 years. Do illegal streams play a role? Yup. Do illegal streams hurt the NFL or college football? Nope.

No he’s not.

This the least points he’s averaged since rookie year. Bron nowadays needs to pick his spots and be opportunistic in his scoring. He’s a better three point shooter than he’s ever been now that’s all.

BECAUSE AD IS AVERAGING 31 PTS.

BRON CAN EASILY TURN IT ON
AND AVERAGE 28-30 PTS
BUT IT WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL
TO WHAT THE TEAMS PLAN IS

Streams count for some of the decline in ratings, but it isn’t the whole story. It’s time to face facts. The only compelling and relevant stars in the NBA right now are LeBron, Steph, KD and Wemby. 3 of those 4 guys are in the twilight of their careers, and aren’t in the championship discussion. Wemby is a freak of nature athlete, and there is still some buzz and interest around him, but it would help if he had a team that was playoff worthy. No other “stars” capture the interest of the casuals right now. The Celtics are boring, the international stars like Jokic, Luka, Embiid, Giannis, etc don’t have an actual fan/stanbase that care about them, and the stars that we’re supposed to be next up (Zion & Ja), are colossal fukkups at the moment.

It goes beyond playing styles. It’s about compelling storylines that draw casuals in. Right now, there’s nothing compelling or exciting about the NBA product or its stars. I’m interested to see how the discussion will go after football season. Nobody starts to care about the NBA season until after the SB. I wonder if fans will come back after the NFL season ends. If the ratings still stay the same, then the NBA is in trouble.

TYRONE GA!
NBA has as much or more engagment than it ever has. People are just streaming more as opposed to watching TV.
internet engagment and clicks aren't going to get those big tv deals and contracts either if TV/Cable aren't getting the eyes they want.

Internet engagement has to translate into dollars. If less eyes are on TNT/NBC/ABC/ESPN, then they can't charge advertisers more.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
Might as well get rid of 3s if that's the goal.
No.. you do something like I said... If you want less players chucking shots from long distance for 80% of the game then make them worth less than other shots.. Hell they could make dunks worth 3 points.... shots from behind the arc 1 point like freethrows and keep all other field goals as 2 pointers.. this is if they truly wanna change this stagnant currant era of basketball
