So whats the difference between a prequel and a movie that takes place in the same universe? They could be taking this franchise in an entirely different direction and just use the same established universe.

If Marvel made a movie that had a scene with Tony Stark running around as a kid would you call it the Iron Man prequel?

Yes, that would be an "Iron Man" prequel. However, a movie about his baby sitter, while obviously taking place in the same universe, would not be a prequel unless it somehow lead to the events in "Iron Man".

A prequel is a story that takes place in the same universe, but specifically has elements that contribute/connect to the story that comes after it.

"In the same universe" can mean a lot of things. It could be something as simple as one character....like Detective John Munch appeared on "Homicide: Life on the Street"....the same character later appeared on "The Wire"....and oddly he also appeared on "X-Files". So all 3 of those shows are technically in the same universe, despite having no other connection.

"Prometheus" has too many ties to "Alien" to be called anything other than a prequel. Same derelict ship, same "Space Jockey" life form, same company that hired Ripley, same android like Bishop, etc. Some of the stuff you see in "Prometheus" is directly related to things that were later seen in "Alien".

Thats where we disagree, if a movie had a 5 minute scene with a young Tony Stark in it but was about something else entirely i wouldnt call it a prequel. For me a prequel is something that ties directly to the story on the later movies. Like the 3 new Star Wars movies are prequels to the original trilogy.

If Marvel got the rights back to X-Men or Spiderman and they had a background scene with Cable doing something i wouldnt say "Oh did you see Cable this is an X-Men movie prequel". No its a Spiderman movie that takes place in that same universe.

Obviously i havent seen the movie so i dont know how much this ties into the Alien movies but if its something small as just having similar spaceships and androids i wouldnt call it a prequel. It needs to have a direct impact on the later movies.

Idk if any if you cats saw this coors light commercial during the celts/sixers game but I swear I saw face huggers and them damn eggs from the Alien joints. Some would say they are giving too much away with all these ads but the fact that nobody can confirm if this is a prequel or not and these damn quick cut trailers has me anticipating this shyt like nothing this summer.:russ:

Breh the spaceship and Space Jockey are the same ones they find in "Alien". This movie shows you how those things ended up on that planet.

Would you consider that a prequel?

And the Tony Stark shyt...that's why I said "if it led to the events in Iron Man".

I havent seen the movie so i dont know the specifics. Im just going by what the guys who made the movie said.

I thought i saw a face hugger in one of the commercials. That would make it a prequel.

he Sumerians, the people of the land of Sumer, are sometimes called the ‘sudden civilization’, and for good reason. They suddenly spawned around 4000BC in between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, Mesopotamia. Many Biblical scholars claim this area to be the Biblical site of the ‘Garden of ED.EN’; it is regarded as the Cradle of Civilization. The Sumerians developed to become the most advanced civilization on Earth, creating incredible developments in mathematics, science, astrology, architecture and agriculture and are credited with many inventions such as the early developments of the wheel, military weaponry and cuneiform, the first writing system in the world. How did this sudden expanse in human ingenuity happen?
What I believe to be of significant importance when researching any ancient civilization is to look at the meanings of words, the definitions, the origins.

Sumer literally translates to ‘Land of the Lords of Brightness’. What possible reasoning could there to call it this? After all, the naming of a nation and one’s land held detrimental importance not only for ancient cultures but for modern day ones aswell. A logical example, whether fictional or not, would be Egypt. Egypt got its name when Noah’s son, Ham, married a woman called Egypt. Their daughter was named Egyptus, and she first discovered the land while it was still covered with water. Once the floods had receded, Egyptus settled down and named the land after her mother, Egypt. The reason that Egypt (the land) is sometimes referred to as Kemet (or Kermit) is because Egypt (the person) was black by decent, hence Kermit meaning ‘the Black land’. That’s just one logical example to put things into perspective. There has to be reasoning behind the naming of a people and their land, so who or what were these ‘lords of brightness’, and what possible importance could they hold with the people of Sumer? It’s important to note here that light has strong associations with knowledge and enlightenment; this is evident in all ancient cultures.

Now the Sumerians themselves called their land ‘the water land’. It’s interesting that a lot of Origins ‘myths’ talk about lands covered with water, leaves a lot for speculation, but that is for another time. The Sumerians referred to themselves as ùĝ saĝ gígpe which translates to ‘the big-headed people’. The reasoning behind this choice of definition could have many reasons, the people of Sumer were no different biologically to other humans of the period, so this definition, if not depicting what they actually are (being ‘big-headed’) could only be describing what they want to be OR what they are in some way connected to. Ancient Sumerian mythology carries vivid tales of wars between men and God’s, interaction between men and God’s and the transferring of knowledge between men and God’s.
