Is it really the prequal to Alien? I've been saying it looks like they're re-releasing Alien with a different title

Why is it that all the official info i read on this movie says its not a prequel to Alien, doesnt have anything to do with the aliens from those movies, and is its own story despite taking place in the same universe. Yet on the message boards people are saying it is a prequel and are watching the first Alien movie in preparation for this?

I noticed they try real hard to make it known that this movie is set in the Alien universe but isn't really a prequel but I think they might just be trying to throw people off though.

Cuz originally that was the plan, to make a straight up Alien prequel, but they appearently scrapped that idea, bit off another movie that was going to be made as mentioned earlier, but still including elements of the first Alien, ....so maybe we see a xenomorph, or maybe we we get two hours of other shiit. Movie looks good, but could be dissapointing.

It's obviously a prequel....some of the shots from the trailer are directly from "Alien"....the Space Jockey in the chair....the horseshoe shaped space ship....hell, in one of the trailers they show a xenomorph (Alien) statue.

I've seen Ridley Scott saying "it's not a prequel", nobody believes him. And I don't mean fans, I mean news sites, and people that have actually read the script. I guess he wanted people to be surprised.

I think thats why some people are confused, cuz the director himself is basically saying that its not an "alien" movie pursae. They kept the script very secretive so hopefully theres a clever revelation that we dont see coming.

if you watch alien one they find a space jockey ship or watever, and they find that something burst from its chest, a xenomorph

its telling the story before that happened

it seems like its tying it together where the alien creatures are some type of wild fukk up that was created by these space jockey things

in teh preview u see dudes turning into shyt, they might make it so like the humans who visited the first time transformed into the xenomorphs during there contact with these "engineers" and eventually fukked up the engineers. Then more humans visited later and that story is told in the alien movies

Whether or not it has one specific element like aliens is irrelevant....the company that sends Prometheus is the same company that sent Ripley in "Alien"....David the android from "Prometheus" is an earlier model of Bishop from "Alien", etc.

So whats the difference between a prequel and a movie that takes place in the same universe? They could be taking this franchise in an entirely different direction and just use the same established universe.

If Marvel made a movie that had a scene with Tony Stark running around as a kid would you call it the Iron Man prequel?
