Now I didn't say it originates from America, I said its an American name as is Leroy, don't mince my words. I think that nikkas like you need to stop trying to come up with all these stupid ass idealisms to define your "blackness" and understand the bigger picture. Changing your name is not going to make you powerful in America or anywhere else around the world. To think it will it just short sighted.

For one you don't know where your last name originated from. How it was given to you, or your real history, so to automatically assume it comes from "white people" is dumb in itself.

But say that a majority of the black people in America do have names of their slave masters, what the fukk difference does it make? So you change your name to Shabazz instead of what ever it is now, does not get more jobs, make you better educated, change how your viewed in America, give you more insight on who you are because you created a name out of thin air? What affects will it have on the cause. Other then you thinking its a big fukk you to Uncle Sam. Your logic and way of thinking is asinine and lacks reasoning or purpose. If your ashamed of your name that means your ashamed of your heritage. Which means you are in fact trying to run away from who you are, who your people are, and where you come from. But keep thinking your smarter then me homie.

Try focusing on shoving your name down their throats, instead of trying to create some strawman last name that only provokes your self to feel better about some shyt that you played no part in.

I'm not trying to define my blackness at all, but what i won't do is live a life where my surname was given to me by slave master's. Not sure whats hard to understand about that? Changing name isn't to bring power, its to bring self respect. I don't know how any self respecting black man can hold the name of slave masters that raped, murdered and killed his ancestors. to put it in simple terms for you, if someone shot my friend, and then gave me a free pair of nikes. i wouldnt wear the nikes, not wearing the nikes doesn't make me more powerful, but it is me rejecting anything given to me by someone evil. how is a WHITE name a black mans HERITAGE? BREH do you hear yourself? i think you need to travel the world more to get a better understanding. on the average day i don't even come across white people, can't even remember the last conversation i had with a white person, this is about ME.. a black person REJECTING what was forced onto me, its not about ME, proving something to white people.

An American name is an African American's heritage. I need you to get off the bullshyt. And stop like acting like traveling the world gives you some insight on last names. The fact you're still attributing last names to race as opposed to origin and location tells me everything I need to know about your "knowledge". Keep preaching your lost logic bruh. Let me know when you have a sustainable impact other than generic "White man's name" nonsense. Right now your argument is void of any common sense, and full of nonsensical philosophy.

I mean you indicated that Ali was more powerful as a human being because he took a name from a man who basically was using him to gain notoriety with black America. His name was used as a pawn, it was not ordained or gave him special powers. I dig the convo though, it just seems your stance point is immature and you need to step outside that box and realize the bigger overall picture. A Muslim or African sounding name does nothing for awareness or attitude, its just a rebellious attempt to separate yourself from slavery. When your generation is so far removed from slavery its insane. You want to separate our race from slavery, then lets start infiltrating these corporations and become the captains of Americans industries......that's how e change the dynamic in America.

are you really this ignorant? most 'AMERICAN' names are actually european so that deads your 'american' argument right there. And yes traveling the world does give you insight, into EVERYTHING, and this is why i can tell you have been no where. my argument is void when its you that clings on to a white mans name? you're embarrassing. my generation is so far removed from slavery? are you dumb? my great grandmother was a slave. you keep talking about america... im not american.

Not a problem I have to worry about.
But If my parents gave me American names, I would be mad as hell.

All of my children will have Igbo first names, fukk a tom, dikk, and harry:camby:

Not true. Hernandez, Garcia and Rodriguez are spaniard surnames and those folks love those surnames. The Western Hemisphere loves it.

Really changing one's is a convenience that most brehs don't want to go through.

I don't know this to be a fact, but isn't that ez at the end of those names Arabic? I was under the impression that ez, means something like Mr.

Isn't Arabic read from right to left, rather than left to right? I am not sure so I am asking, ez might be an Arabic suffix; like Mister. If that is the case are those names really Spanish or are they Arab?

I learned something new. Slaves weren't given last names. Only first names but once slavery ended whatever plantation the archives found a slave was last at, that's the surname one was given. Remember people were sold and separated, etc. forget africa, we don't really know where we're from here.
