A common Misconception, a good portion of black slaves once free gave themselves there own last names. Yes, are they English/ welsh /Scottish/ Celtic etc names but thats all they knew at the time. This is why you have a lot of black people with last names freeman.

I'm proud of my ancestors who built amazing lives before me. Those are the real owners of my name that I look to. I only know them, not the white family I got my name from, so who cares. I'm not abandoning them.

Yet black people are all throughout. But your belief applies to black people worldwide...smh.... The more you talk the more you expose your own ignorance. My point is once again names are attributed to places of orgin and geographical location..... Not race.... American surnames were adopted by former slaves because those were the common names for both free and enslaved Americans. The same can be said for pretty much any situation where groups of people are able to choose thier last name. For instance Italian and Jewish immigrants often changed thier names to more familiar American sounding names and pronounciations after arriving to America.

Its less about slavery and more about indoctrination and Western influence.....

I can tell your young and dumb as fukk. For one your stance is an opinion as you cant attribute where any chosen last name originated from. In addition your real heavy on this slavery, rape, and muder tip as if this accounts for every background for black people around the world. Lastly your created fallacy has no solution or purpose. Been there done that. My great great grandfather was a buffalo soldier... My grandmother was a black panther.... My mother is a current member of the NC chapter NAACP.... Thier is pride in my namesake. In my heritage and my lineage......
if names are attributed to places of origin why would ANY black person (all black people originate from africa) want to hold onto a european name (the same europeans that fukked over africa)

there is NO such thing as an american surname, are you really this dumb? most white surnames derive from europe when europeans came to america.

why do you keep talking about america? is your brain unable to think globally? you keep bringing the conversation back to america.

you call me young and dumb yet im probably older than you, and you're the one thats never left your country lol. you probably even work for a white organisation.

lmao at you saying a european name is your heritage you're a lost child, your parents did a terrible job in dragging you up.

Jesus fukking Christ dude....your train of thought is increasingly gearing towards retarded.

How many generations do you think take place during 250 year span? By that time slaves were farrrrr removed from Africa. Mass imports of stolen Africans had long been stopped and most if not all slaves of America were brought up under western influence. So again.....and I can't stress this enough Freed slaves chose their own names. Based on the dialect and culture of the time and place. Like WEB Duboise, Dredd Scott, Frederick Douglas, and Harriet Tubman.

It wouldn't make sense to select an African name because most were born in America with no sense of African Heritage. And places like Hatti, Jamaica, West Indies, Cuba, South America....they chose names for similar reasons.

Now you speak globally when globally that's not the case because globally and you know this if you "travelled" most African and Asians countries are not run by Eourpean Empires...they are run by thier own. There is no western influence in namesake or ethnic culture. So what are you really saying bruh?

And slavery is my heritage you dumb fukk. Does it extend beyond that absolutely but who I am and why I exist in this country in this life is due primarily to that period in time. My ancestors built this country. We fought and bled for our right to be a part of it. The greatest fukking country in the history of the world. We did that. fukk what you talking about. The first man to ever shed blood for this country was black...A free Frenchman by the way.....wonder if he got his name from white people too.....being that black people were free and active all over the world prior to and during slavery and didn't just exist in Africa.....but again you would know that if you travelled or at least picked up a book from time time...

I'm not ashamed of my heritage I come from a long line of soldiers. And my great grandfathers namesake is nothing to be ashamed of period. You really need to expand your mind past this shallow philosophy of yours. It's a massively wrong generalization....and more importantly bears no fruit. It's like you asking current Africans why they don't use Surnames from the Kush empire because thier history is rooted in ancient times.....it makes no sense.

Why not though? its a direct representation of the oppression and tragedy that you have to wear everyday.

Have the white mans name, eat the white mans food, speak the white mans language, its gotta stop somewhere:yeshrug::dame:

What? :what: You know most slave owners just gave their slaves first names, right? When they were freed, they could choose their own last name. Hell, my last name was one of the popular last names chosen by freed slaves. I'm just going to block you for such a stupid thread, just shows you don't even know your own history yet you have the audacity to make a thread like this. Have a nice day, fool.
