Are we taking brand loyalty too far?

we've reached a point where we're arguing over cell phone operating systems that are marginally different and have most of the same software developed by the same developers. arguing over video game consoles that have 90% the same library and maybe get 10 or so exclusive titles a year out of hundreds of releases.

some of us are basically volunteer advertisers marketing these companies products for them for free.

i'm all for having preferences but if you can't play Uncharted because its on the Playstation and you're an Xbox brand warrior that doesn't make Uncharted a bad game it just means you missed out on a good game to remain loyal to something that has no reward for your loyalty.

there's a difference between having a preference and illogically convincing yourself a non-preferred brand is bad because it doesn't align with your preference. especially to the point where you miss out on things you'd like because of that.

People need to justify their decisions to own certain things because they're insecure as hell. I have a 360 and a PS3. I use an Android cell phone but I don't think people who use iPhones are "losing". It's just preference. Like I said, I believe it all comes from people being incredibly insecure.

when i was a kid i was brand loyal to Nintendo because it was what my mom bought me and i couldn't afford a Sega. the neighborhood kids who were in similar situations with Sega and eventually Sony would argue over what was better. even still as a kid i wanted to play Sonic the Hedgehog and would go over my cousin's house to play it.

that brand loyalty was caused by my inability to afford the other brands. what i'm saying is we're all adults here assumably. many of us have jobs and can afford what we want. there's no real advantage to being brand loyal unless you work for the company.

I find stan wars to be hilarious. These companies want to milk you for all your worth but these stans spend so much time defending their preferred brand. Its really quite sad. Ive found the Apple stans to be the worst for it as a lot of the ones I know worship Steve Jobs like the greatest inventor of all time.

While there is something to be said for recognising a company's quality standards etc, its not enough for some to say i'll never buy a Sony product as I have an Xbox or I'll never use gmail because I hate Android and love Apple. :pachaha: like some do

I have a N4, 2 Ipads (2 & 3) a Blackberry phone, Windows 8 laptop and a PS3. I just buy which ever device serves my specific needs. I couldnt careless if its by Apple, Google etc. Although Its different if ive had a bad experience with a particular brand.

Brand loyalty/disloyalty can be justified though. If you've been doing business with a company for years and they've given you great treatment, why wouldn't you want to support them?

And there are justified reasons for not supporting other companies, like repeated poor service or just certain philosophies you hold.

I think it's kinda funny when it seems like people genuinely want upcoming games and consoles to be 'bad'

I can understand brand preference to a point but these console and stans are beyond unreasonable and completely irrational it's like kids arguing over whose dad can beat up the other. I dont have much interaction with google/apple stans so I can't speak on them.

Brand loyalty is one of the most distinctive things about turn of the 21st century economics.

when EVERYTHING works so well the only thing you HAVE is aesthetics.
