I always thought NYC was what you see on tv with that big "downtown"/busy/everybody-everywhere look. Thought Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Harlem, Manhattan and Staten Island was its own towns.

Manhattan is the city center. An absolutely enormous city center at that
Harlem is within the borough of manhattan. Its just that harlem is enormous, its a giant neighborhood with the population of a city itself
