I agree with the posters that are saying that dude still has his youth, so he has more options than, let's say a 30 year old working the same job. All of the suggestions made as to what he should do were spot on. Jobs like Wal-Mart should be a last resort. There are a lot of problems, both with individual stores and interally, that makes Wal-Mart a terrible corporation to work for. Nothing can really be done about the BS labor practices that Wally World does because the things they do (barely) fall within the legal limits of each individual state in which they operate. I also agree it's not a long term solution unless you have no ambition or have legal complications that prohibit you from getting a quality job. In that case.....
Wal-Mart is losing its monopoly on the domestic retail market, so they are cutting every corner to keep that Walton money going. The middle class that they rose to economic power on is disappearing and Amazon is changing the game. Wal-Mart cannot attract or keep(when they actually do get them) a quality workforce for the general areas of the store (grocery and GM). It's well known that as long as you can pass a background check(no felonies) and a drug test, Wally World will hire you, no other questions asked. The turnover is generally high, especially for overnight stockers becuase the work is so demanding..... if you finish your work on time, they make you stay (late) to help everyone else, then cut your overtime by making you come in an hour or two late everyday or making you take extra long lunches(which are already an hour long).... and you still don't get your work done, especially if you're working in an area that has heavy freight loads.... DAILY! If you work day shifts, they will try to keep you under 35 hours unless you're a department manager because if the overnight shift doesn't do their job, then everything else is fukked up. The unloaders and the overnight stockers RUN the store. PERIOD. The department managers just change shelf mods and complain about freight not being worked. The afternoon shift are full of HS students that don't give a fukk because they can or will quit if you make them work too hard. It's not that serious to them either.
Most of the stores are ran in this manner.
Right now, I do work at a local Wally World and I'm just biding my time until I'm able to say "fukk Wally World!" FOREVER!
My thoughts on maintenance.... At a well operated store, you'll only have to worry about your specific job and if you're going to get your hours. At a poorly operated store, you'll be filling in for missing stockers that decided not to show up or just quit altogether. Maintenance is fairly straightforward, but as I mentioned, it depends on how well the store is ran. Waxing and buffing floors are a main part of the job. Trash pickup (outside, and possibly the plastic and cardboard that is accumulated while working freight), cleaning bathrooms and gathering leftover carts that the cart pushers don't pick up. You'll also have to learn how to use the trash compactor and Baler.
Sorry for the long post.
Rather him do that, then be out selling drugs or robbing people. You pretentious fools are a trip.My nikka car pooling to work with his mom's at Walmart..... I'm sorry but that shyt was funny as hell.
I was a janitor when I was 19...no respectBeen looking for work for awhile, applied all over the area but nobody wanna call me back. My mom says you can come work at Walmart with me, their hiring overnight stockers right now. All you do is stock the shelves now that doesn't sound very appealing to me but she says she's sure they'd hire me.
I put in the application wait a week and just when I think they must not be interested I get a call on some "we're not hiring overnight stockers right now but if you change your application to overnight maintenance we can get you in for an interview."
I'm like maintenance sounds much more dignified, must be some type of manager
I ask my mom whats overnight maintenance she said its a janitor
I'm sitting here thinking if I should apply for this shyt or not. I live with my parents so I don't necessarily need to take this job but this seems like a sure thing and its not like I have better options right now.
