I agree with the posters that are saying that dude still has his youth, so he has more options than, let's say a 30 year old working the same job. All of the suggestions made as to what he should do were spot on. Jobs like Wal-Mart should be a last resort. There are a lot of problems, both with individual stores and interally, that makes Wal-Mart a terrible corporation to work for. Nothing can really be done about the BS labor practices that Wally World does because the things they do (barely) fall within the legal limits of each individual state in which they operate. I also agree it's not a long term solution unless you have no ambition or have legal complications that prohibit you from getting a quality job. In that case.....

:yeshrug:

Wal-Mart is losing its monopoly on the domestic retail market, so they are cutting every corner to keep that Walton money going. The middle class that they rose to economic power on is disappearing and Amazon is changing the game. Wal-Mart cannot attract or keep(when they actually do get them) a quality workforce for the general areas of the store (grocery and GM). It's well known that as long as you can pass a background check(no felonies) and a drug test, Wally World will hire you, no other questions asked. The turnover is generally high, especially for overnight stockers becuase the work is so demanding..... if you finish your work on time, they make you stay (late) to help everyone else, then cut your overtime by making you come in an hour or two late everyday or making you take extra long lunches(which are already an hour long).... and you still don't get your work done, especially if you're working in an area that has heavy freight loads.... DAILY! If you work day shifts, they will try to keep you under 35 hours unless you're a department manager because if the overnight shift doesn't do their job, then everything else is fukked up. The unloaders and the overnight stockers RUN the store. PERIOD. The department managers just change shelf mods and complain about freight not being worked. The afternoon shift are full of HS students that don't give a fukk because they can or will quit if you make them work too hard. It's not that serious to them either.

Most of the stores are ran in this manner.

Right now, I do work at a local Wally World and I'm just biding my time until I'm able to say "fukk Wally World!" FOREVER!

My thoughts on maintenance.... At a well operated store, you'll only have to worry about your specific job and if you're going to get your hours. At a poorly operated store, you'll be filling in for missing stockers that decided not to show up or just quit altogether. Maintenance is fairly straightforward, but as I mentioned, it depends on how well the store is ran. Waxing and buffing floors are a main part of the job. Trash pickup (outside, and possibly the plastic and cardboard that is accumulated while working freight), cleaning bathrooms and gathering leftover carts that the cart pushers don't pick up. You'll also have to learn how to use the trash compactor and Baler.

Sorry for the long post.

I agree wit most of the stuff u said outside of the department managers shyt

They run the store no if and or buts, honestly everything falls on them so why they complain about freight no getting done, if zone or freight doesn't get done they have to do it in the morning along wit the other crazy long ass list of task they have.

Unloaders have the most mind numbing job in the store that any male can do, pulling freight off a truck, most most won't move out of that position cause they can't troubleshoot or do customer service well enough

I'm not a department manager no more, but it was by far the most task heavy, challenging and time consuming job I had at walmart, i got promoted but I can still say my job duties is as tasking as there's.

Been looking for work for awhile, applied all over the area but nobody wanna call me back. My mom says you can come work at Walmart with me, their hiring overnight stockers right now. All you do is stock the shelves now that doesn't sound very appealing to me but she says she's sure they'd hire me. :ehh:

I put in the application wait a week and just when I think they must not be interested I get a call on some "we're not hiring overnight stockers right now but if you change your application to overnight maintenance we can get you in for an interview."

I'm like maintenance sounds much more dignified, must be some type of manager :obama:

I ask my mom whats overnight maintenance she said its a janitor :sadcam:

I'm sitting here thinking if I should apply for this shyt or not. I live with my parents so I don't necessarily need to take this job but this seems like a sure thing and its not like I have better options right now.

Ha. Me too. That shyt had me focused on getting my degrees.

But I can't lie it was a sweet gig. It was at a small airport with low traffic. Work 4 to 12 and went to school during the morning. Had every Saturday and Sunday off too

Op why are you giving up on life when you are so young. You say you dont know what you want to do.. but it appears you do know. You obviously want to work low wage jobs for the rest of your life if you think walmart is a career option...

Take your ass to college a get a degree in a technical field even if your not sure you will like it. Better to be making 50k+ year doing something you dont like after college then making 10 per hour at walmart for the rest of your life doing something you dont like.

Yeah I remember feeling like I had a reason at the time. Now I have no idea what I was thinking, biggest mistake of my life but I believe I've learned from it.

I'm 21. I have no idea what I want to do for a career.

Man you have to figure it out. You are still madd young. You still have time to figure it out. What do you enjoy doing in your free time. Takes characteristics from that to help you figure out what you could do for a job.

If you still dont know. Try taking a personality test to help you hone on attributes you do not know you have. Google Jung Typology test.

You said you trained people (then dipped) at your old job. That means you have some management experience. What else did you do at that job. Figure out all of the boss shyt and put it on your resume.

WHile creating your resume, google some of the jobs that you found. Then figure out what it takes to work at those jobs. Look for companies and start contacting people. Let them know you want to have a thirty minute meeting or phone call to ask questions about the gig. INquire to see if any internships are available. Get your gear right (and NOOOOO CHOPPA SUITS!!) Do a little networking.

Nobody can find a job for you but you. Get off your ass and look for some real nikka shyt!
