Just googled this, I had no idea. I have a mid 2010 MBP and was thinking of upgrading this year. Maybe I should hold off ?

It's only the 2011 MBP that has that problem. Newer models are fine. Apple needs to replace every 2011 MBP with a newer model to compensate.
Those are the ones with the GPU issue right?

I have a early 2011 MBP...don't know if it's related but I had to replace 2 hard drives.

I doubt Apple will require it, it just doesn't seem like something they will do. They want EVERYONE to be able to buy one, not just iPhone owners.

IMO the dumbest thing ever was rushing these things out and you still need to tether it to a device.
If it's just like the Android ones, I'll wait a few generations and shyt by then Google will have dropped something far superior.
But that 399 price tag...you might be right
