Conservatives turned into what they did because of people who were conservative but frustrated that the party wasn't more extreme.

The way to get change is to vote in a plurality of progressives and stop expecting a handful of superheroes to win 2-to-1 battles. It will take 4 election cycles but people dont have the patience for that
