Spaghetti Western is a nickname for a broad sub-genre of Western films that emerged in the mid-1960s in the wake of Sergio Leone's film-making style and international box-office success. It was used by critics in USA and other countries because most of these Westerns were produced and directed by Italians. According to actor Aldo Sambrell, the phrase 'Spaghetti Western' was originally created by Italian journalist Alfonso Sancha[1] In the beginning the term was used in a derogatory sense, but over time it has become accepted as descriptive. The denomination for these films in Italy is western all'italiana (Italian-Style Western). Italo-Western is also used, especially in Germany. The term Eurowesterns may be used to also include Western movies that were produced in Europe but not called Spaghetti Westerns, like the West German Winnetou films or Ostern Westerns. The majority of the films were international co-productions between Italy, Spain, and sometimes France, Germany, Yugoslavia, and the United States.

Free your mind of ignorance friend.
So you post a wikipedia link to "spaghetti western" and think that you've done something? :snoop: Ignorance is truly bliss. I'm in awe at the stupidity. Spaghetti westerns were movies that told stories set in the west just like Westerns, the only difference is that they were made by Italians. Django is set in the south and is a slave revenge story. This story has nothing to do with the west so why do you think that it's a western? Why can't you people admit that the movie is about slavery? What is the agenda behind denying that fact? I know the answers I just want at least 1 of you to be man enough and admit it.

Saying that the film is about slavery would be implying that slavery is the main focus when instead it is just a plot point albeit a major one. Django is about much more than just slavery.

The main focus of the movie is slavery. Django is a slave that gets revenge while saving his enslaved wife. You can't be serious saying that slavery is only a "plot point". Slavery is the entire backdrop of movie. Every character in the movie is portrayed in the context of how they are involved in slavery. All the elements of action, comedy, romance, ect of Django were expressed in the context of slavery. That Dicaprio scene that everyone is going on about is all about slavery and how whites justify their treatment of blacks. The conflict between King and Candie is all about slavery/race. Everything in the movie is about slavery/race.

Since you claim that main focus of the movie isnt slavery. what do you think the main focus of the movie is?

You my friend are lost, and its clear you are trolling. But I'm gonna feed the troll here cause I'm bored.

First off, here's the first reason why you are a total fukking idiot. The "wild west" basically refers to everything west of the states along the eastern coast and doesn't even extend all the way south to Florida, as that was the only settled part of the country during that time. At least parts of the movie are set in Texas, which would definitely be considered the Wild West.

The second reason you are fukking idiot is because genre refers to stylistic attributes, not to a geographical location. In other words, just because a movie is set in whatever you consider to be the west would not make it a western you fukking clown. For anyone who has ever watched a film that is considered a western, django clearly is stylistically heavily patterned after a traditional spaghetti western. In fact, the film score is in part done by enicio morricone, who pretty much defined the sound for spaghetti westerns, including the most famous western jingle, that whistle melody, which is basically a cliche at this point used several times over in everything from sitcoms to cartoons to signal an important standoff (a standard stylistic point in a western).

Just ban this scumbag.

:whoa:

The Western genre/theme really can exist in pieces that have nothing to do with the wild west like Space Westerns?
