Speaking of coincidental similarities, does anyone know if DJ Toomp interpolated Doug Timm's "Nightflyers" theme for Jeezy's "I Luv It" record? When I asked him about it, he wouldn't confirm or deny it.

Doug Timm - Nightflyers Theme (FF to the 0:32 mark)

Young Jeezy - I Luv It (Prod. by DJ Toomp)

Coincidence or (uncredited) interpolation?

Similar, but different Toomp uses a different harmonic progression and different notes in the melody. The Rhythm is similar, but that's rhythm for you.

This is definitely possible, but with Toomp, you never know. He's known for putting his instrumentation on top of samples, then he'd mute the sample, change a note or 2, then he'd transpose the harmonic/rhythmic progression. This way, the piece literally becomes his. A prime example of this, would be Kanye's "Big Brother" instrumental. Toomp said Prince (originally) wouldn't clear the sample, but then he came back and said he'd clear it for 99.8% of the publishing, or some shyt like that. Toomp said when he was told that, he used the method I described above and ended up getting 100% of the publishing.

Yea, as long as you change it up, and add different harmonies and change the melody then its yours. Music will continue to be regurgitated since there are only 12 notes; along with there being only so many rhythms that the human ear wants to hear.
