Footwork can't be stressed enough, there is nothing worse than watching someone box when they don't know how to move. No base, crossing feet, not coming off the heel....its more than just throwing hands.

Golden glove winner and DR representer in the Olympics Jerson Ravelo made sure all of us little nikkas from around my old way were able to defend ourselves, he would even bring us along to Red Brick with him. Owner of the gym let us train there for the longest and never charged us a dime(we were too poor to pay anyways) but dude was on some

Started boxing around 19, but did ju-jitsu and arnis (fillipino stick fighting) for 2 years before it though.
I used to train Monday thru Friday for about 3-4 hours in the morning. Sparred for the 1st time after about a month. Some might say that's quick, but it all depends on how you look training and how hard you go. Some nikkas couldn't spar until after 3 months or more, but you know there's always that one dude looking to prove himself too early that ends up getting that work. Good memories.

That's a good gym though. If a place thoroughly works the basics with you, stick with it. Don't fukk around and end up in those places that'll barely teach you shyt then throw you to the wolves against experienced cats full contact....dog, they spend like 3 months teaching u how to walk. Im not making any analogy, its like 3 months on footwork

No gym worth it's salt would do that. The places that have a lot of bullies are s-hitty gyms. There is always a hierarchy in any school/gym you go to but if they want to stay in business they will adjust to your level.

We had them dudes, they were rah rah until they had to spar with the trainers for going off at the mouth. We would watch

Ogden N Kostner...it was in a huge ass wearhouse you had to know it was inside to even know
The gym was even in one of the EA Sports Boxing games for the OG PlayStation.... that was kinda cool to see where you train at in a video game

It closed in 06-07 after like 80 years or something.... I heard dude who was running it had opened up a gym on the South side so maybe that was the gym you was at N why the name was similar
