I've always wanted to learn how to fight/box. I feel like a part of my manhood is missing because I don't really know how to box, though I can fight somewhat. I don't think I'm in shape enough to really take boxing lessons the way I want to, but I'm not too sure because I don't know what it would take. But I don't want to just take lessons, I want to become involved in the sport, make it part of my life.

Can anyone give me a heads up of what to expect physically/mentally...what the benefits were and how long you took lessons? I'm 28 so I feel like I'm starting really late. Am I wrong for thinking that? I know if I have a son, I will put him in boxing immediately.

I learned in my early teens...my pops won a bunch of tournaments N was the nikka on the block who loved to fight so he taught me the basics...after that I went to the gym N started there

My son is 10 N im teaching him things now...Starting off you prolly goin have a problem using your jab N footwork...they'll have you doin basic ass shyt for weeks N it might bruise your ego doin the same thing as the lil kids...but if you stick it out you'll get better

i did from 15 to 19. Expect the unexpected? Hope that you are in good physical shape before you enter the gym. And the rest will take care of you, expect; sore shoulders sore neck sore knuckles wrists and forearms.
But its very much worth it.

I got a big living room so I clear it out giving us a big empty space

Showed him how to move side to side...boxing stance...how to hold his hands (right hand like you talking on your phone):pachaha: step forward with the jab...throw the right with power (step on the roach):heh: N some push ups

I don't even care if he ever wants to join a gym or anything but he goin know how to fight N hold his own:smugbiden:

I use to box for 2 years . do alot of cardio u need ur stamina to b top notch . U should start running . Start wrking on ur jab lil things like that u can do at home work on ur non dominant hand. It gets u in shape . I boxed wen i was very young since i use to get in trouble alot . It all depends why u wwnna do it is to b in shape , to learn how to fight etc . It teaches u discipline and make sure if you going to do it to be very dedicated and hve heart. In the beginning is going to be tough but with repitiition u'll learn to love it like i did even though i stopped cuz of dumb shyt in being in the streets boxing is something that would be with you forever if u learn how to eat sleep boxing . Its never too late bro.

Then first things first get your cardio up N start doin some pushups

In shape nikkas get gassed boxing N your arms goin get tired af asap since you not used to throwing punches N having the extra weight of the gloves
Once you can do a decent amount of normal pushups, start doing knuckle pushups--it'll make your punch much heavier. And get yourself some ankle weights even if you're just wearing them to walk around the house. Regardless those first boxing classes are going to whoop your ass.

I trained amateur from 2005-2008 lots of cardio we start out stretching then shadow boxing warm the body up. After that a typical day would go rounds on the heavy bag, then speed bag. Trainer would pull us into the ring for either mitt work or sparring sessions. Finish that off with the double end bag and some jump roping and a hour jogging.

Most of the time spent 2,3 hours a day in the gym. Definitely a confidence booster even though I know I can't you feel like you should win every fight.

This is the thing most dudes don't understand about training fro boxing. They expect to walk into a gym and start sparring on Day 1 and shyt. My pops used to make dudes spend their entire first week just working on their jab.
Making 'em do 12 rounds in a corner just shooting a jab on the heavy bag and shyt trying to see who was serious about it and who was just fukking around. Dudes used to quit left and right.

im an active amateur at the moment. had 7 fights so far. had my first fight when i was 17. 18 now.

i took ass whippings for at least 3 months in sparring. i stanned james toney for years tho. so i had some defense and could see the shots coming. so i never got dropped or ko'd. :whew:

most people cant take the ass whippings and quit cus they ego tho.
