This is like the boogeyman for adults :snoop:

Anytime I try and talk about issues like the current shooting or other topics a lot of people find some round about way to connnect it all to that mess :bryan:

I think their probably is some funny business going on at the top but I doubt it's as intricate and simple as a mob of old men running the planet and controlling our brain.

What I do now is ask people to show me their sources and it's usually some YouTube video or some stupid website with a biased agenda. A lot of times there "evidence" is based on assumptions, "maybes, could be, I thinks, and possibly" if it's a video they'll throw on some dark music in the background to let you know they're serious :merchant:

It would be a lot more helpful if anyone here has any good links or books I could recommend to people on how to disprove this stuff. I could use Google but the net makes it hard to tell the difference between psychos and people that are legit.

Or even how did you come to the realization that the whole thing is ridiculous and stupid? Did you ever subscribe to the idea or flirt with it?

Sadly, I've found that when it comes to adults, there's not much you can do.

Some people just think the whole world is conspiring against them and won't be convinced otherwise regardless of whether it's rational. Just look at a lot of people in KTL. People believe what they want to believe, and a lot of people want to believe conspiracy theories. I think, for some people, it's more comforting to believe in conspiracies than it is to believe that the world is often random and unfair.

The best thing you can do is to nip that type of thing in the bud early if kids bring it up. They're more open-minded and can still be taught critical thinking, and may actually listen to logic. :ehh:

well i know what i'm going to read next.

a little bit of BS is ok for conversation or letting my mind wander but i never bought into any of that nonsense. i bring it up on long car rides to make the time go by faster because some folks can talk about 'illuminati' all day.

Sometimes, as with religious fanatics, there's nothing you can do because it's an emotional/faith-based belief and the claim they're making is impossible to disprove. Any evidence you show them can be interpreted as "disinformation" or insufficient, and the conspiracy can be moved further and further into the shadows and outside the realm of available empirical evidence.

Awww man thanks for that video. :blessed: and I'm going to try and check out the podcast.

I never heard of that book but it sounds like it's a must read. Higher Learning should have a Must Read Books threads.

Yeah there's this guy at my work that used to be a Sunday school teacher but now is a hardcore believer in these conspiracies. It's almost like he traded in his religion for a different belief system. Most of the time no one talks about these things but when your at a party and people start talking it goes there sometimes and I guess it's just the competitive side that makes me want to disprove but your right it's almost impossible and no one wins just people catch feelings. It's just a shame that people would rather accept what some guy on YouTube is saying instead of actually doing the research for themselves. Almost like knowledge gets thrown in the bushes.

Sadly the op has personal issues with learning about groups that have extreme amount of influence in his daily life, yet fails to disprove something without having anything to go on.

Also you have the following posters who not only try to disprove this without question but don't even study up on themselves.

so secret socities dont exist? they dont run the world from now till centuries ago?

secret societies do exist. But what organization or group do you know about that has excreted control without being known.

What is the point of having power if no one knows you have it?

It is impossible to have power without someone knowing you have it. They control the world? Then why have wars instead of peace and exterminate those you dislike if you have absolute control?

If Big brother was real you would know about.
