Report: CM Punk’s agent contacted Fox about WWE studio show job

Report: CM Punk’s agent contacted Fox about WWE studio show job

Sensing a ‘CM Punk fires his agent’ post in the future.

Maybe all the smoke about CM Punk not ready to 100% live pro wrestling for good is actually a full on fire. When not teasing Cody Rhodes on Twitter or getting into fight’s with MMA fans, career-wise Punk may be looking to get back with of all companies the WWE?

From the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required and encouraged) Dave Meltzer reports on the possibility of very strange bedfellows roaming the halls of Fox Sports 1.

“CAA, which represents Punk and also represents WWE, has had an agent reach out to FOX head honchos about Punk as a co-host of the upcoming new FS 1 talk show. From a WWE standpoint, my gut is that they’d hate the idea. He’d be working for FOX, not WWE. We’re told there have been no negotiations at all regarding that. The impression is WWE wouldn’t like it but things change daily.”

Would love to live in a timeline where this scenario is actually possible.

Back to reality where television partners do not hire people openly critical of their product to anchor down weekly studio shows. Could not imagine the NFL or MLB green lighting Fox hiring someone to work for them that has such an adversarial relationship towards their leagues.

It was a little over a year ago when Punk and his former friend Colt Cabana wrapped up a trial with WWE’s Dr. Chris Amman.

Unsure if Punk’s agent would reach out to a big network without the permission of their client. Is this report perhaps a sign that CM Punk is open to working with WWE again in the future?

I doubt he’d go back to the WWE after the trial with their doctor and how nasty his departure was.. but he’ll definitely wrestle again. Probably already in talks with Cody Rhodes’ company.

Do you realize how factswork ? You said he was part of the worst drawing ppvs of all time which is clearly not true and tried to act like 500,000 was chump change for the ufc . Why are you comparing him to Brock and Ronda ?? He wasn’t the headliner on any of those cards . Your corny dude .

pay attention. never once said Punk was part of the worst drawing PPV's "of all time". the exact statement was

"the PPV's that he took part in were some of the worst drawing PPV's each year for UFC"

and they were as shown in the PPV buy post. the 2016 PPV was the 8th lowest buy out of 13 PPV's that year and the 2018 PPV was the 10th lowest buy out of 13.

also, $500,000 obviously isn't "chump change" as you say for a regular nobody in the UFC. however for a supposed "star" like CM Punk it absolutely is.

why compare him to Brock or Ronda? because again in the original post the OP was bringing up numbers and creative control options that bigger stars didn't even have. (suggesting $12M for Punk, 100% residuals on merchandise, full creative control, etc.).

and last but not least about the "He wasn't even the headliner on any of those cards" statement. did you watch the lead-up to those fights? have you seen the commercials, ads, billboards, DVD covers, media etc., etc.? Punk absolutely was used as headlining those cards even more so than the actual "main event" of those shows.

hell, UFC even did a multi-episode documentary series specifically on Punk the weeks leading up to the first PPV. they absolutely used him as the drawing power for the shows, but knew they couldn't put an amateur fight last on the card because all of the other fighters would be livid as most of them they were already annoyed at him taking a spot to begin with.

no. you are "just making shyt up" or didn't do your homework. although yes getting paid $500,000 is great, but is it "superstar" great? absolutely not. CM Punk was never a big financial draw for the UFC.

UFC 203 (CM Punk vs Mickey Gall)
PPV Buyrate = 450,000
UFC 203 - Wikipedia

UFC 225 (CM Punk vs Mike Jackson)
Report: UFC 225 Bombs With Less Than 150,000 PPV Buys
It eventually rose to 250,000 which was still pathetically low considering he's a "pro-wrestling legend"

to put that into even more perspective, here are the buyrates for every PPV each of those years

2016
UFC 195 = 230,000
UFC 196 = 1,500,000
UFC 197 = 422,000
UFC 198 = 217,000
UFC 199 = 483,000
UFC 200 = 1,009,000
UFC 201 = 240,000
UFC 202 = 1,650,000
*UFC 203 = 450,000 (CM Punk vs Mickey Gall)*
UFC 204 = 490,000
UFC 205 = 1,300,000
UFC 206 = 200,000
UFC 207 = 1,100,000

CM Punk fight ranked 8th out of 13 PPV's in 2016

2018
UFC 220 = 380,000
UFC 221 = 150,000
UFC 222 = 260,000
UFC 223 = 350,000

*UFC 225 = 250,000 (CM Punk vs Mike Jackson)*
UFC 226 = 380,000
UFC 227 = 400,000
UFC 228 = 130,000
UFC 229 = 2,400,000
UFC 230 = 300,000
UFC 231 = 300,000
UFC 232 = 700,000

CM Punk fight ranked 10th out of 13 PPV's in 2018
- this year in particular didn't have Lesnar or Rousey to draw. all they had was McGregor (UFC 229). this was Punk's chance to prove his drawing power and he failed miserably.

Tapology | MMA & Combat Sports

to add even more perspective on the level of mainstream drawing ability. here are Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey's PPV buyrates

Brock Lesnar UFC Buyrate

UFC 81 - 600,000
UFC 87 - 625,000
UFC 91 - 1,010,000
UFC 100 - 1,600,000
UFC 116 - 1,160,000
UFC 121 - 1,050,000
UFC 141 - 780,000
UFC 200 - 1,010,000

Ronda Rousey UFC Buyrate

UFC 168 - 1,025,000
UFC 170 - 375,000
UFC 175 - 545,000
UFC 184 - 600,000
UFC 190 - 900,000
UFC 193 - 1,100,000
UFC 203 - 1,100,000

Pay Per View Buys | Tapology
ufc 168 was a Anderson Silva card not Ronda Rousey no idea why they counting that she wasn't the draw to that card or a draw yet.. and to prove that her next fight did 300k in comparison. Not defending punk he isn't a draw but still.

For what it's worth, at Starcast he basically said he'd take calls from Vince and HHH and that he's over what happened in 2014 :hubie: :hubie: :hubie:
I heard something similar to this as well but I'm not so sure that he's over what happened. He'd be an Idiot to think that they'd Treat him any differently if he did come back, sure he'd come back in to a Full Push and maybe even a Title Run but eventually he'd be back to Square 1.

Why would anyone think Vince would bring back a problem child he didn't like in the first place who wasn't his type, didn't draw, complained, was involved in a law suit, bashed the company publicly, went to UFC and gets destroyed twice especially when they got certified UFC stars already on the roster.

Cm punk is damaged goods, only people who want him back are marks
