I keep reading shyt like Vince hasn’t even finalized the card for Wrestlemania still and last week everything was scrapped and started over. Why is it like this now?

maybe I’m giving too much credit to my childhood but didn’t they used to build up these blood feuds for like 3 months between Rumble and WM? shyt even recently they were doing year long builds with the Cena/Rock stuff. Michaels and Austin did a whole goddamn media tour for the buildup to the WM match with Tyson.

shyt has just felt like another one of their 20 ppvs each year with just some more pyro and fireworks.

yeah this is the feeling I get. They write themselves into a corner because they have to maintain a feud over three months with 6 different ppvs in between or some shyt.

And when they did the Cena/Rock year long buildup everybody was shytting on them for a lack of suspense and confirming the main event a year in advance :russ:

nikkas complain about everything, always have and always will

I’m not saying it has to be a year but what feud slated for Mania does anyone care about right now? Edge and Roman are the only ones getting any build and there’s no story behind it besides both of them using the spear? Come on man.

It's because they have more shows now than they used to. Like @2 Cold Taurus said, things used to be a lot simpler. You would have the Royal Rumble, then the Elimination Chamber. The titles were usually retained at those events, and if there wasn't a title match, you would have a #1 contender's match inside the Chamber. Winner goes to WrestleMania to face the champion. After that, you have six weeks of uninterrupted buildup. The matches that get booked after that are usually the undercard/gimmick matches, but the high-profile matches are hinted at for a while before they're made official.

Now, you have an event like Fastlane which shouldn't exist. All that does is hurt whatever buildup WrestleMania has. You're no longer preparing for an event six weeks from now, you're preparing for an event three weeks from now. Once that's done, you only have two weeks or so to finish booking the Mania card.

There should be no PPVs between the Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania. After the Chamber, most of the WrestleMania card should be figured out. And they don't even give you hints as to what matches you'll see like they used to. They used to make it simple. Cena wins the Rumble, he loses at No Way Out, Triple H wins the Chamber. You know you're getting a triple threat six weeks later, it's just a matter of how they get there. Undertaker/Michaels was figured out both times. Even the high-profile matches that get decided later on are usually confirmed the night after the Chamber or a week later.

Giving the audience time to anticipate WrestleMania and planting the seeds for matches ahead of time was what made the event special. They can't confirm anything if they have to build up to unnecessary B-shows and change plans at the last minute.

EDIT: I just remembered WrestleMania 23. They had Undertaker choose his WrestleMania opponent a week after the Rumble, and on that same night, they determined who would face Cena for the WWE Championship. They booked both world title matches two months before the event. Imagine them doing that shyt now. :russ:
