I had piano lessons as a kid, so I can read music.
I learned guitar from a CD and from books. Hardest part is getting started and practicing regularly to improve your skill.

just practice playing simple children songs by singing and matching the tone with your voice

Taught myself how to play the ukulele, great for trying something new and attracting cute hipster white girls. :win:

sometimes i wonder if i should even answer threads like this...

do it anyway :lolbron:

it does. i cant really purse my lips and make them hard. i have to roll them all the way in and it just doesnt feel natural

Maybe if you tried to stop teaching yourself and got lessons, you could figure out what it is that you're doing wrong. :yeshrug:

Yep,

I played from 6th grade to my junior year in college (scholarship) was a screamer an all that...loved it. Ain't nothing like it. Gave it to my lil nephew so he could possibly earn a scholarship with it as well.

I miss my trumpet :to:

its called embouchure and you have to develop it. You have to do exercises to strengthen it...then you can control any notes you want to come out. The tone of your sound will also improve drastically.

Any advice you can give to someone that's trying to leanr both as well....?

Dont try to learn both at once.

And pick whichever one will be most fun for you at the time.

When I learned guitar, I was really into the Eagles and wanting to learn their songs....so I'd get chords/tabs off websites and practice.

I picked up piano later, but alot faster. Better at it than guitar.
