I see no problem with it.
A couple years back, when I was still living in Jersey, I flew to LA for the ASCAP convention at the Renaissance Hotel. The Yankees were in town to play the Angels so I said, "F*ck it," took an Amtrak down to Anaheim, and copped a sixth row, behind-the-plate ticket for only $175 (I would've paid ten times that much in NY). Yanks lost but I had fun.
Also, in '99 when the Knicks were in the finals, I was in Midtown an hour before Game 3 (the only game they won) and got a ticket for only $115 so I went.
I don't know why people are so insecure about being seen alone in public, restaurants et al.
