Anybody ever sit back and think how capitalism did a number on consumer spending habits?

i work in one of the highest paid professions. from this point of view, yeah people buy shyt but they have the money to do so :manny:

tldr: stop pocket watching.

So people don't make bad financial decisions?

What does your one job have to do with the median household savings being $5k?

Keep the mindless sheep pre-occupied with cheap trinkets. They won't realize their pocket is being picked. Lots of people are leaving nothing but debt for their children to inherit.

It's kind of like a ticking time bomb": Unregulated buy now, pay later programs surge in growth

Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
Everyone wants to go into debt traveling too.
Don't get me started. I was supposed to go to Colombia two weeks ago but decided against it. I had budgeted money for the trip but some things came up so I decided against it. I could have gone but the money spent could have gone to something more useful. A girl that I'm casually talking to said I should still go because I make enough money and just put it on my credit card or pay through Affirm. :snoop:

Affirm?!?!

Yeah I'll be the first to say that I like purchasing little luxuries and struggle with wanting stuff. I'm disciplined enough to put money into my 401k and savings to automate some of it and pay myself first. Part of me feeling guilty though is that my family came from working class roots in the South so if I spend $200 on a pair of jeans I feel guitly, but I make enough money. BUT at the same time do I really need this shyt?! :russ:

Moderation between living in the moment while enjoying the fruits of your labor and saving for the future is the balance I decided to strike.

Get those lab diamonds for your wife, lowkey wedding. Save your money for trips.

I fell victim to the consumerism and bought a BMW during the pandemic. Sold it and now have nothing.

Cars are just expensive now so no getting around that.

Cut back on so many streaming services. I just use a VPN and find what I want to watch now. That saves a lot of money.

I sold some old electronics and stopped buying new shyt until I finished the old ones. I had so many unopened games. Some from 3 Black Fridays ago.
