Great thread.
I was, insanity, never really been into hip-hop clubs but X is my goat. Tunnel is every bit as crazy as you've heard. Guns, knives everything out in the open dudes would get stomped out and people would just keep dancing around themDid anyone see DMX perform when his debut was out? that had to be crazy
Point of reference. DJ Mister Cee. He apparently went on one of those "special" blocks that we all knew to avoid, and kept going back...... IYKYK. HaIf some of y’all are really old heads from the 90s tunnel scene y’all knew what time it was down there from Thursday to Sunday on 25th to 29th street on 10th Ave down them side blocks..
Thing is the hoes was actually legit back then at least down that way by the tunnelPoint of reference. DJ Mister Cee. He apparently went on one of those "special" blocks that we all knew to avoid, and kept going back...... IYKYK. Ha
What I never see when people reminisce on The Tunnel, is how hectic it was trying to get home. Whether getting to the whip or walking back to the Iron Horse in the early hours of the morning, esp. through or around those PJs. It was always some kind of pressure on when the jump-out was coming and for who. Straight target status, Don't miss those days at all
No doubt, but not on every block around there. Drive too far over and you in transformer alley. No matter how fast your ride's 0-60 mph time was, it was never fast enough to get out of there hahaha. Like, "wtf did my eyes just witness? Let's just go home." Mood blown completely.Thing is the hoes was actually legit back then at least down that way by the tunnel
damn bcc was wildI was staying with my grandmother who lived in Chelsea down the street from the Tunnel. One night I was getting some Ray's pizza and i saw a swarm of nikkas coming out the door chasing one dude down the block. He couldn't outrun them so the pack closed in on him and started giving him that boot work. I went out into the street to get a better look and I recognize it was some Boot Camp nikkas in the thick of it. Sean P and another nikka picked dude up by his arms with his legs hanging like the cops did Eddie Murphy in Trading Places. He had on white Timbs, so i guess he didn't went them to get dirty on the rainy sidewalk...but one of the guys took them off his feet and smashed them on the side of his head like a band member banging cymbals at the end of a routine. Then Rock came to me and snatched the plate with two slices out my hands like I was his kid and smashes it into his face. But he was like "My bad lil duke" and gave me a $20
vin a real one for that

If you've been through that area recently, you wouldn't even recognize it. They even have the High Line over it and Chelsea Market a bit south. Further up 10 Ave now, you got Hudson Yards. People right now would not even believe that one of the grimiest hip hop spots in the world once was in that neighborhood. And all around it was the track (aka hoe stroll) back then.
