The TLR phenomena
Hmm.It's rough out here. I was thinking of starting that thread. I might even do it one day. Not sure how it would help though but some things need to be said. Some things need to be addressed. Some things need to change.
Thread title: "Is brehdom tired yet? Really tired?"
Some of the posts that I have seen on here in the last 24 hours
Hmm.
Let's make this thread the launchpad for that first. I think there are enough bright minds ITT to address some of the things you are talking about, and some things I've shared below.
My fiancee is a physician and she has been equally appalled. She was planning to put together some sort of seminar with more black doctors addressing concerns of the public towards the vaccine. I told her it may not be a good idea to give the rabblerousers a voice, but instead to work with other physicians and sort of poll responses and see, where does this disinformation come from? How have your patients responded to what you've said about it? How can we address the emotional status of the people and move them through logic later? One of the things that she says is that "if your alternative treatments work, please start using it on these people that I am seeing in the ICU everyday. Please start working in your community with these preventative measures." Memesharing isn't preventative public health.
One thing we need to get straight is that despite their "consensus" hitting them with scientific "righteousness" is the game they play best. It does seem absurd to me that the same people that are decry what reality is, do not want to operate within it so that we can move towards a brighter, more regular future.
I thought that a lot of this stuff would drop off once Trump got pushed off of twitter, and out of office, because there'd be a less concerted effort [1]. For example, I've been seeing a lot less of people invoking Tuskeegee on my timelines in general.
I don't know exactly who is carrying water for these anti-scientific ideas except for the usual suspects here in TLR, but in the larger world, like what @Hijo de luna was talking about his thread, its even weirder and worse. Seeing the nonsense that the President of Tanzania has been talking about has been really disconcerting. [2]
For my friends, I also say, "I cant wait to get the vaccine because I am not trying to lose my sense of taste or smell. I just learned how to cook oxtails!" That usually gets a laugh out of them, in addition to talking about this guy. I don't want that to happen to me.
A buddy of mine last night was talking about that his friend got the 2nd dose, and she felt really bad, like she had been tied up and beaten with bats. My heart goes out to her. I'll prefer that to a cytokine storm any day. I'll prefer that to that video above any day. I can't even imagine, nor will I, losing my sense of taste and smell with how much i love my bougie ass coffee.
I think for some of these things, if we are serious about where science helps humans, we've got to work from a psychological framework and start people off on some therapy maybe addressing their unmet intellectual needs??????

lets analogize it as if we were looking for the molecular mechanisms.I am not sure where to start and that is part of the issue.

I know you are eager to move ahead but let me think about it. To frame proceedings the important preliminary questions might include 1. what will be achieved 2. what the best / worst case scenarios are, 3, broad aims.
oh its no rush breh, im just encouraging you because im passionate about it. In reality, this is a limetime's amount of work that we will be able to contribute to. I have a copy of a book titled The Power of the Charlatan from 1939. One of the chapter addresses the "nature guru" type charlatan and traces specific examples from the 1500s...
Dr. Charles Finch said about liberation, something to the effect of, "if you aren't in it for the next 500 years, stop now."
