I study molecular bio. Usually dont participate in scientific discussions here because it's usually less productive to do so.

Currently studying computational biology. :yeshrug:

In school for Engineering :manny:

I’m studying biochemistry currently and graduate in the fall should everything go to plan

Black (or whatever race y’all are) excellence :wow:

@UpAndComing which degree field you studying bruh? If I were good in math I would have taken up civil or construction engineering

:russ: outside of school how does your conversations about molecular biology usually go with laymen. Can't imagine they are very productive either.
I'm pretty good with analogies and metaphors so it's a lot of those conversations with people outside the discipline lol. Sometimes though, their questions about the analogy/metaphor can help inform the right questions to ask about the discipline, of course dependent on how well the analogy/metaphor is constructed.

What usually happens though, this is my specific problem, is that i give too much detail. In these cases people just get overwhelmed and dont ask questions. Most people just get like unfortunately intimidated I guess. For example, I just met this guy who was on the board of a local hospital for like 20 years, he couldn't even pronounce molecular biology.

my lab studies a very well known disease so familiarity bridges some o fthe gap but eventually all conversations end up with "that's good man they must be paying you big bucks" and no one knows somehow that in academica you get paid in pats on the back lol

I graduated with a Computer Engineering degree (did comp sci and EE), but don't use any of the EE stuff now. I just do software development and am a data engineer/work in Business Intelligence
