The term once refers to the duration of that run.
For example
Dwyane wade played with lebron twice, in Miami and Cleveland, get it now slow guy.
The twice covers the 4 in Miami and the half season in Cleveland...get it..

But what's the point?

Like why would you even count that like it matters? Why does it matter how many "times"? Why wouldn't you count the actual # of seasons?

Hey, Dwight played with a top player "twice", but John Stockton only got to play with a top player "once".
