A lot of teams would have to cut their main core to do this trade. It's hard to think that Boston is willing to do that for a rental

Boston doesn’t have to gut shyt. That’s the point. They’ve got two picks that could eventually be unprotected lottery selections. You’ve got Tatum, who along with one or both of those picks is the centerpiece. And then you’ve got whatever else you need to add for salary considerations.

How is that gutting the team when you add AD in return?

I thought the picks were protected.

the teams that AD says he wont re-up with wont have the better offers. you have to understand this. the leverage is with AD and whoever he says he wants to be with long-term.

That’s why Kawhi ended up in Toronto, right? Or why Ainge is already being quoted as saying he doesn’t care if AD doesn’t want to come to Boston, he wants the Pels to wait for his offer?

fukk leverage. If the player is good enough, and if you’re equipped to go get him, go get him. If “winning” a trade is more important to you, then play the leverage game.

All I’m saying is: if that’s really what the Pels are asking for, it ain’t enough for me to worry about leverage. They can have all those dudes. Lebron + AD, with $30M in cap space to chase another player in the summer, IS BETTER THAN ALL THOSE DUDES PUT TOGETHER.

Lakers would want to keep at least one of their young players but if Demps plays hardball they'll all be moved. Cuban was one of the loudest voices behind the CP3 veto, he's not helping AD get there.

But that's probably the best value a team has gotten for their star in recent memory, add someone from NO like Ian Clark to LA and it's just about the perfect trade. Better value than Boston's offer imo.

Kawhi situation is different. He is better than Derozen and has a legit shot to get to the Finals his first year. AD staying in Boston has a lot to do with Kyrie. Kawhi staying in Toronto isnt based on another player being there with him, just solely if he likes being there. I get what Ainge is saying and why he is saying it, but I dont see them having better offer than some other teams by the summer time because we dont know what can happen. Unless you assume Pels value those picks and Tatum or Ainge will give up both Tatum and Brown, which essentially is gutting their roster. A GM trying to save his job doesnt put all his faith in draft picks....he wants players.

the bolded part I agree with.

If you agree with the bolded, you agree with my point. I bring up Kawhi and Ainge to counter your point by saying you have no idea how much someone else values AD until they make an offer and land him. The way the Raptors did with Kawhi. The way OKC did for PG. And the way it appears Ainge is willing to do for AD.

So don’t fukk around worrying about what you can leverage out of the deal (a Top 5 player ain’t good enough?). The BEST leverage the Lakers have right now is that everything is set up for them to get a deal done, without one of their biggest competitors (Boston) being able to counter. That’s the only leverage that should matter.

If I’m LA I’d try to do that 3 team trade without involving Kuzma

I really dont see the Pels having any leverage in this situation if RP wants to get gully with it. The only waste for this year is if the Lakers dont make the offs. They were basically eyeing signing someone in the summer, if they get AD before the deadline, then that is just a head start. the key here is N.O. bad contracts namely Hill. they are going to want to get rid of that before the summer if they possibly can. Lebron's first year in LA was basically a write off.

I'm saying they can hold on to AD until 2020...and waste year 2 as well...and I do think AD would be willing to resign in Boston if Kyrie is still there....or sign wherever KD goes if he decides to leave GS
