Nice troll. The Chinese suffered more under Japanese rule than the entire collective experience of the New World Blacks. It's not even up for argument.

:russ: Statements like this is why nobody will ever take you seriously. You should be vivisected alive so they can try to figure out what undocumented chemical imbalance you suffer from.

Race is inherent in colonialism of course but my problem with arguments like this is more about the basic illegitimacy of transnational unrepresentative political power. What fukking right? What right? What right did the Brits & co have to take over these countries and run extractive empires? None!

So my my concern with this type of thing is based less on racial stuff than on the basic immorality of the proposed idea

you have to understand colonialism in asia/africa wasn't just about land it was about conquering peoples as well

and race is inherent because the justifications involve cultural superiority

then race is inherent in the justifications used, not colonialism itself

you can't separate an action from the idea that underlies that action

if you take over the lands of a bunch of african folk, destroy their native culture and say you're leading them to jesus or whatever the racial aspect and the action go hand in hand

of course the real motive behind colonialism is economic but the racial (or prejudice-based) thing is almost always hand in hand with that.. you don't subjugate an equal

No one seems to give a shyt about what Belgium under King Leopold did to the Congo. I didn't even learn about it until I read about it when I was about 21. They killed 10 MILLION PEOPLE. That is a holocaust of epic proportions. Nobody even knows it happened.

Funny, because the very first thing that I thought of when I saw this thread was the Congo Free State.

For those defending colonial practices, consider that a large number of the problems related to infighting that African nations had could have been prevented if not for European powers arbitrarily drawing territorial boundaries based on whatever resources that a plot of land had and ignoring the organization of the tribes there.

And if we want to talk about economic colonialism and the like, then Latin America and the Caribbean, among other regions, would like to have a word with you.
