however, i do not have a problem with japanese folk viewing black men as masculine.
both of these characters have great depth, high intellect, and run both of the respective organizations they're apart of.
I can understand why they use racially ambiguous characters. Japanese people look the same with dark hair, black eyes and slanty eyes which doesn’t fit the anime aesthetic, so going for blonde, blue/black/green eyes, colourful hair etc fits the image better. Also let’s face it, Hollywood/ western markets are more lucrative so sometimes it makes sense to make the characters look sort of white/Asian for market appeal.
I don’t know much about the industry but i seriously don’t think they hate being Japanese and wish they were white. It’s a lot of factors that goes into it.
