I remember in 2008 there were stories that senior aides in John Edwards' campaign knew about his affairs and agreed to sabotage his campaign if it looked like he might become the nominee. He came in second in Iowa that year remember, beating out Hillary. And then towards the end he was angling to be Obama's VP or AG but breh wisely kept his distance.

This guy was thought to be a VP candidate. Could have won a congressional seat with his eyes closed. Could have run for governor again. Anything. Getting him out the paint definitely made sense if you're a republican operative or donor in Florida. Would be like getting rid of Obama during his senate run or something. Gotta get dudes like that outta there or else they gonna do their thing. Gillum was exceptionally talented as a speaker, had his pulse on liberal policy, and appealed to enough non-black people to do very well.
