Wow @ the excuses...

I, a Nigerian, am telling you to go ahead and do it and you are telling me reasons why it won't work without giving it a shot.

I'll rather you say you don't have the capability to do it than give that excuse.

It ain’t an excuse, I have no desire to own a restaurant but the fact of the matter is, there are barriers to entry (as with any proprietorship) doubly so with African Americans, who need to adhere to strict social controls that other people don’t.

You got Chinese people that sell Pizza and Beef patties in the hood . We can’t do that, they won’t buy it.

An African American can very rarely open a Jamaican restaurant and be successful. the EXACT same thing would be true of African cuisine. That it’s the food of our ancestors makes it even more sad.

Are you saying Jamaicans and Africans wouldn’t support it? Or just everybody wouldn’t support it?

We’ve seen AA owned West Indian restaurants fail before. Maybe the food wasn’t good (even though we’re all eating the same shyt more or less) but I think that historically, there’s a sense of commonality between WI’s that will keep them from frequenting an AA establishment selling WI food. This isn’t the case for anyone else. A Mexican will eat beans and rice from and Ecuadorian spot, a Chinese dude will eat authentic Chinese from a Japanese restaurant. So on and so forth.. except when the ball lands on us.

African dude above acknowledged that he wouldn’t be comfortable with it.

It all speaks to something much deeper than capitalistic gains and won’t be rectified through dollars. This is why we need to work on healing ourselves before we jump ten steps ahead and talk about opening businesses that don’t have the support of the people. Time and time again we’re undercut by the effects of slavery and colonialism. It permeates every conceivable facet of Black life, chiefly how we interact with one another.

Only thing nikkas hate more than slavery is other nikkas.
