Universal studios are the first studios to realize "Hey we really dont need movie theaters to sell our product" They can go directly to the consumer on day 1 and get all of the profits in their pockets in return without the need for the middle man(AMC, Cinemark, Regal etc).

As this lockdown has shown us, we really DONT need movie theaters in society like they want to make us think we did.

The movie theater experience is all flash no substance not to mention expensive. If Universal, Sony and other studios can play their cards right they can do what Netflix did to Blockbuster or Best buy did to Circuit City.

AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas will no longer show Universal movies like Fast and Furious and Jurassic World | GamesRadar+

Not exactly
There’s just going to be two options vod and theater you can decide what you want to do.

Piracy is the only thing holding it back

Y’all sound silly and old as hell. Bout to get left in the dust, no thanos :mjlol:

*1980s-1990s*
nothing beats the experience of hanging in the mall with your boys, meeting up in the food court, talkin to girls :banderas:

*now*
Amazon prime is life :ahh:

Convenience will always overtake whatever “experience” you think you are getting, in all aspects of life. The only thing that may stay is the big blockbusters having an opening night. And again even with that you can’t hear half the movie, you are paying $100 dollars for the tickets and food, and you have some a$$hole kicking in your chair all night.

:yeshrug: See above

theaters are great for certain movies..like IMAX/dolby joints...and Universal is skewing this shyt crazy. Trolls' numbers really don't mean shyt in the sense it's an isolated (no pun) thing...they really have to test it with a tentpole flick and when shyt's back to whatvever the new normal will be.

how bout an r rated joint or Fast 9? That shyt's ready. If they really wanna say fukk theaters...drop it...now.

see what type of return they get.

last FF did what? almost or over a billi? If they get that much straight off a VOD..then maybe they gotta point..but until then..

This.

The consumer has been signaling for a while that not every movie needs to be a theater blockbuster.

Most of these animated films don’t need to be in a theater. Kids would enjoy having friends over to watch ICE AGE 3 the same as sitting with their parents in a theater.

Exactly

imagine Black Panther, Infinity War, and End Gaming being digital only lmfao. The theater experience is what helped make the movie the experience it was.

Also from a personal standpoint I remember watching the 1st Creed when it dropped in theaters and that movie was literally like being at a real fight the way the audience was tied in.
