I read Jesse Eisinger's book about the relationship between Justice and corporate law firms/white collar fraud/settlements and deferred prosecutions.

Great book, showcasing that the difference in pay can be too difficult to turn down. Given the disparity between the pay at Tier 1 firms and even the elite govt departments, it's not realistic to think that the best performers wouldn't often leave.

Amazon showing their products first on their platform doesnt strike me as illegal or sinister. :unimpressed:
It's not illegal but it's definitely sinister.
Inviting smaller businesses to your gargantuan platform just so you can study their analytics
and steal their customers is REALLY SHADY.
Especially when realistically there aren't really many competitors to Amazon as far as e-commerce goes in a sense they might as well be google.

It'd be the equivalent to throwing your website on Google's search engine and when it blows up, they just throw their own
copycat website at the top of the searches and put you at the bottom of the page or on the dreaded second page to languish in obscurity.

as an amazon seller

they explicitly tell you when you sign up as a seller that amazons customers are THEIRS alone. They go through lengths to reiterate that to every seller

a smart brand will invest in their own fulfillment or seek multichannel to avoid overexposure

people complaining about amazon should explore other platforms if they truly dont like it :manny: breaking them up wont change that business model (it is clearly a fire business model :whew:)

this is exactly how businesses treat most competitors :mjlol: had a dentist accuse the russian dentist across the street of having mob ties just because he was killing him with the same visibility

This is what monopolists always say.

My criticism isn't based on the success or failure of their business model. The issue is that the "success" of the model has negative consequences for consumers, small businesses and the country.

im not saying that they arent a monopoly but monopolies dont come to be because of the business themselves as much as it is their customers

the real question is what causes a customer to only choose one option for transacting :manny: if you cant fix that, monopolies will always arise in some shape or fashion

it is literally in their contractual agreements with all third party sellers, there is a whole forum filled with problems/rants/scamclaims you name it, its a competitive platform from the jump.

This.
Consumers will always use the best and most convenient e-commerce site(amazon), will always gravitate towards the most popular social network platform(Facebook), and use the best most convenient software available(google, Apple, Microsoft).

These natural monopolies are fine IMO:yeshrug:

Thanks to Amazon, it’s possible to get nearly anything you want, very quickly, for not much money, just about anywhere in the country, and probably to return it for free for just about any reason.:blessed:
Wal mart , Target, and others are all working to match or exceed Amazons convenience, which means Amazons innovations are rippling across the retail industry.:blessed:

:ohlawd:It’s impossible to cry consumer exploitation or harm when prices are relentlessly falling and service is constantly getting better. People on the left are just taught to hate and fear big companies.
