That's because rich people are Gods in this country. We worship and are infactuated by the rich. We want to be rich. We want to dress like the rich. We want to eat like the rich. We want to fukk like the rich. We even want to exploit like the rich. And we justify this exploitation by maintaining a belief in our heads that one we'll all be rich, even in the midst of being exploited ourselves.

Also I don't want to demonize all the rich here. They're people just like you and me (some of them at least ). I am just saying our society is obsessed with the lifestyles of the rich and famous. This is the end result of what happens when hyper-individualism is taken to its extreme.

Yep.

Alabama is a shythole state government that abolished basic humane rights for workers. Too many people want to stunt and exploit people, for "growth"

I rather throw a whole plastic bag full of horse shyt, and stuff it inside Jeff Bezos head. :pacspit:

Based on what I've read, Amazon pays a decent wage and so workers might be hesitant to bite the hand that feeds them. I'd imagine it's kinda like working at a plantation back in the day... when the only alternative you see daily is working in the fields (or in this instance, lower paying jobs), it's easier to be content as a house negro than strive for freedom/rights.

Not to put racial undertones or slavery imagery in the situation, moreso just that is human nature to be content with the status quo instead of rocking the boat and venturing into uncertainty
I’d say your metaphor is on point - but more then you know.
It isn’t just “human nature” it’s also explicit threats against your job made by your employer, an overall system that has backed each of your employer’s techniques, and the seemingly endless power they have. This plus the fear of poverty, especially during a pandemic, plays a major role.

This is the answer.
The think tank pieces and finger pointing OP-eds about this story will avoid the obvious answer.

Its definitely seems to be out of control here in Cali...:francis:

CalPERS administers pensions for many local governments in California along with state workers’ pensions. Like most pensions around the country, CalPERS doesn’t have enough money to cover all of its current and future obligations to public workers. The $377 billion fund, the nation’s largest, has about 70 percent of the assets it would need to pay all those obligations, leaving it with what is known as an unfunded liability.

Median pension costs went up $7,022 per employee in a selection of cities and counties in California from 2007 to 2016, compared to a national median increase of $1,216, Sarah Anzia, an associate professor of public policy, said Wednesday in Sacramento.
The rising pension costs have consumed an increasing share of local government revenues, absorbing an additional 2 percent of general revenues over the 10-year stretch in California compared to a national median of 0.7 percent, according to Anzia’s data.

That's cool.

So what does the rising cost of pensions, in a state known for failing to tax multiple multi-billion dollar corporations that could easily cover the difference, have to do with "public unions bankrupting blue states."

The argument is basically, we can't control the multibillionaires so we'll make up the shortfall by fukking the middle class guy with the nice pension.

:hubie:liberals have and have had a super majority in this state for well over a decade... blame your peoples:lolbron:

The rational though, is that raising taxes will increase the exodus and result in loss in revenue, reducing the states capacity to help the poor.

And I guarantee if we had adequate social safety nets and better worker rights.
People wouldn't outright fear potentially losing a job with an abusive employer.

Liberals are not leftist though.
Being a liberal does not mean that one actually takes issue
with capitalism or the policy that capitalism has so blatantly influenced in
America for the past 70 years or so.
