xbox don't do 4K :francis:

and

I'm tight I bought a firestick about a month ago....barely use it :snoop:

It does the codec for the streaming format was introduced in the June update. Let me clarify that they are no streaming apps released for the system as of now. Expect after this fall update with Windows 10.

So its that new codec they are trying to develop for streaming 4k or was the xbox one fitted with the Hevc H/W to stream 4k?

All this is redundant if you have an xbox one. Xbox one will also have 4k capability very soon as well. Im think Netflix on Xbox One is already 4k capable.

Both Sony & MS are gonna have to release new versions of the PS4 & XBOX1, that support HDMI 2.0 before they can play DRM-protected 4K Content.

So the PS4s & Xbox1s y'all already own, will NOT be able to play 4K content from Netflix, Amazon Instant, & etc.

:whew: Thank god, I haven't bought a next gen console yet.

Don't message me
It was already smooth as shyt on the original for the most part. The improved graphics and cpu should make this a no brainer. I'll have impressions in a few hours
After i had the beast installed on my firestick it ran better. might cop the fire tv this time around. Thanks breh

Working through the setup now. I forgot to see if root was available and got upgraded to the latest firmware. :snoop:

Haven't really used root on my old FireTV so this shouldn't be different :ehh:

The Good :gladbron:
  • The box/remote is pretty much close to the old version. Box now has an SD slot and the remote is a little different, but it's still nice and sleek.
  • SMOOTH :damn: My favorite skin (Arctic Zephyr) is smoother than the FireTV interface
  • I know it's probably just the newness talking but the picture seems much clearer too.
  • Everything in Kodi works the same

The Middle :ehh:
  • The menus are pretty much the same, so it doesn't feel like you have a new device.
  • Everything is strangely familiar, but some things feel like they changed for the sake of changing. For instance the menus are a little deeper, but essentially do the exact same thing as the last Fire TV
The Bad :to:
  • FireStarter and Llama do NOT work yet, meaning you have to go through Amazon's menus to get to Kodi. Should have no bearing on your decision to purchase/not purchase though since it will be updated soon.

What can you do with a rooted Fire TV?

On the original one it let you mount external drives. I never used that though. That's why it wasn't a big deal. I always like to root my devices just in case something new comes up though.

2nd-Gen Amazon Fire TV on sale for $79.99 at Amazon

Amazon has just put the new 2nd-Gen Fire TV on sale for $79.99. Perhaps they’re regretting not offering any type of pre-order deal like they did with the Fire TV Stick and other Amazon devices. If you already purchased one, it should be relatively easy to contact customer service and be refunded $20. Unfortunately, the gaming edition is not on sale and is still listed for $139.99. At this time, the sale appears to be exclusive to the US and Amazon. The new Fire TV is not on sale in the UK, Germany, or Japan, and nor is it on sale at Best Buy, Staples, or B&H. If you’re an Amazon Student member, you’ll receive an additional $20 off today only, which brings the price down to $59.99.

Update
Refunds are very quick and easy. I was issued a refund within a couple minutes through Amazon’s chat.

Amazon Student members can buy a 2nd-Gen Fire TV for $59.99 — Today Only

Posted on October 7, 2015

Amazon is currently running their annual Amazon Student Days event where they offer students with a .edu email address special discounts. One of those discounts is an additional $20 off of the new 2nd-gen Fire TV. With the new Fire TV already on sale for $79.99, that brings the price down to $59.99 for students. If you are not an Amazon Student member and have a .edu email address, you can join Amazon Student for free for 6 months. Amazon Student is similar to Prime membership, but at a reduced price with slightly fewer perks. This Amazon Student price of $59.99 for the Fire TV ends tonight at midnight.
