Look at the stats.
Every team is still averaging 2 field goal attempts per game.
Including Extra Points is disingenious because they just made it harder by moving the ball back 15 yards.

Of course they're going to miss from a farther distance.
XPs are the equivalent of a 19 yd FG. XP percentages were steady at 98.something and 99.something for 20 years.
They're at 94.5 from 15 yds further back. Hardly an epidemic. Those numbers are still consistent with the distance ranges for this era of kicking.
And every year, kickers get cut midseason because of panicking coaches. How else do these guys play for years with 3 or 4 stops along the way?
This is just like the old Lincoln Steffens anecdote of "creating crime waves" by over-reporting a story. The kicking percentages are consistent for the distances in this era. Only thing that has changed is an NFL rule intended to create more excitement.
Over-emphasize missed attempts, and make people feel as if things are changing - when they really aren't.
