Am I the only one who thinks a Robocop remake was unnecessary?

Honestly I don't mind the remake. Robocop is a classic and if anything just deeming it worthy of a remake is an honor in itself.

I bet most of you guys got into Robocop when you were kids. Well guess what kids these days ain't watchin Robocop. Not only is the shyt more than 20 years old but there are other things... NEWER things... fighting for their attention. A 7-8 year old kid wasn't about to watch no damn Robocop.

But now they will. Now a whole new generation is about to be exposed to Robocop. And if it's good it's gonna convince a lot of those same people to check the original.

And if it's not good? Then oh well, at least it helped breath new life into the name "Robocop" for a short while and gave a people a short moment to reflect on the impact made by the original.

Why does everything have to be extra violent to enjoy it? R rated bloodbaths, body mutalating fps, barbaric MMA and UFC....and we wonder why mass shooting sprees are happening at a rate the world has never before seen. You people have the same demonic lust and mentality for violence that the Nephilim had as they raped and terrorized in the days of Noah

Rosario Dawson is in it though.

I guess I hadn't looked at it that way. I just think certain remakes are unnecessary. Like the "Total Recall" remake. I didn't watch the whole thing but I heard it was terrible and I thought it was unnecessary too, since the original wasn't even that old.

I didn't see the Total Recall remake but yea I could tell it was gonna be ass.

But I don't see remakes as unnecessary. They're not REPLACING the originals are they? If anything I believe the release of these films pay TRIBUTE to the original as well.

Film has come a long way. Not just in special effects but in a lot of other ways too. It's only natural that modern day filmmakers have a desire to approach the classics from another angle and present them for a modern age. fukk it man not just that but we as a PEOPLE have a desire to see the classics re-imagined. We WANT to see a new take on Superman. We WANT to see a new take on Batman. We WANT to see a new take on King Kong....

.... okay maybe not King Kong. That shyt was terrible. What the fukk was the point of a remake that takes place in the same time period the original did. :snoop:

Anyways, Robocop now joins of the ranks of classic american mythology. I see no harm in a modern day re-imagining. Like everyone else I just hope it's good.

It looks to me from peeping the trailer that Murphy gets caught up in a car bomb. That does not sound promising. You can't have Murphy being killed off screen, it loses 80% of the impact. The original was gruesome. You saw the pain and anguish. The bad guys gave zero fukks and made him suffer. You wanted him to get revenge on those fukkers.

I'm guessing this remake won't contain the same charm or elements of satire either... I will give it a watch but I'm not sure I can justify going to the theaters to see this.

yeah the first one was pretty good. fukk hollywood and their unwillingness to take risks. i swear the type of movies that comes out is so repetitive. there's nothing that's out of the ordinary. half the movies made before 1990 would NEVER happen anymore.
They don't want to take risks because they don't want to lose money. So you go the easy safe route that's guaranteed to make big bucks

Thank you man. Been saying that for years. Without remakes there would be no "the thing" or "definitive" wizard of oz or a list of other flicks and I'll be damned if I couldn't watch the thing. Movies have been remade since their inception. As long as the director has something different to say I don't care. And it's not like the originals will cease to exist. If you don't want to see the remake you don't have to no one us going to take the classic away from you

Total Recall sucked because they didn't do anything new with it. It looked great but there was no soul or rhythm to anything. They claimed they wanted to stick more to the short story which is cool but you still have to make an exciting or good movie and the problem with that movie is that its just bland and boring. It's just there

I don't mind remakes here and there, some of my favorite films are remakes, it's just that right now it seems like there are more remakes than original films these days, especially in the action blockbuster genre.

I think a part of it might be because there are no action stars anymore to draw in the crowd so instead they rely on existing franchises.

I understand that its easier to remake than make something original and that they are aiming at a new audience who might not have seen the original, but my personal opinion is that I would like to see some more original flicks instead of so many remakes.

Word. No more action stars or even "movie stars" in the traditional sense of the world...franchises are the stars now
