I'm with you on the funeral. I don't recall every wearing a suit to one. I'm going to pay my respects, not to style on folks. I'm sure I'd feel different if I was playing a bigger role in the event. Parent, sibling, etc. Until then...

I'm talking more about business. What happens if an opportunity becomes available, but this key person you need to meet is going to be at this formal function. It's your best chance to meet him. The event is tonight.

Or whatever the situation is. My point is that you don't need one until you do. Why not be prepared?

i work in a business where luckly i don't have to work for anyone and usually id on't even have to show my face. most meetings have been via Skype and even that's rare, and the 3 meetings i did have with record labels in new York the millionaires were casual af. im not dressing up for anyone and luckly im in a financial position where i don't have to.

I'll never forget one day I was downtown sitting on a ledge in a suit after a job interview on the phone telling my sister how it went and this fine girl rolled down the window and said "boy you lookin sharp!" and shouted her number out. Made me feel like a million bucks

Folks are funny about putting their beliefs on others. Funerals were held long before suits were invented. Attending one without a suit is not disrespectful just because you were brought up to believe so.

But I'd advise the OP to stash one just in case. You don't want something as simple as a suit to get in your way. Somethings don't happen until they do. The world can get big on you in an instant.

This is true, it's social conventions but as long as you're neat and crisp you're good really.

im talking about me, every month I progress in what I do, but ive flown over that need to be impressing anyone. if I have a meeting 9/10 its the people wanting to work with me not the other way around.
