Jay was a smart dude and had a smart and thorough squad around him...he WAS going to make moves regardless. Hell I could see Big getting tired of Puff flashy bullshyt and doing more business with Jay camp as time went on. Pac WAS the wildcard though. The worst thing is I think Nas would have suffered the most if history was reversed because he didn't really have the people around him that would have been able to stop BOTH those juggernauts from eclipsing him :manny:

I can't say Nas would have suffered. It was written was double plat...while biggie was ALIVE so he proved he would be successful with or without Biggie. Jay is the one who never really blew until Biggie died. Real talk, Biggie's death is problem the best thing to happen to Jay career wise. They're personas are too similar and I think biggie would have just overshadowed him. Bad Boy would have continued to run shyt with Big, Lox, Mase, etc and Roc would have looked like a bad boy jr label in comparison.

It would be interesting to see where Biggie and Nas relationship would be considering they were in friendly competition that was escalating at the time of Big's death. Would Nas have replied to Kick in the Door? Ether might have ended up being about Biggie :ohhh:

It's hard to say where Nas would be placed but if not for the beef and ether Jay's rise would have been uncontested for the most part. Nas just couldn't stop him in his tracks, Big was really the only thing in his way relatively speaking.

That honestly sounds like it was recorded after Pac died, what he's sayin is a mighty big coincidence

"body too hot to get near it"

"we needed the nikka dead" This sound like it's spitting on his grave honestly not goin at Pac directly

I thought this was kind of "established" that Jay benefited from Big's passing.

From my POV (being in Europe at the time) RD was a great album among other great albums, but Bad Boy was totally running shyt. I think the first really "big" Jay song around here was Sunshine, and I remember some brehs saying he was biting the whole Bad Boy shiny suit style. Even for Vol 2 him/Roc-A-Fella was going against DMX/RR and Ja-Rule/Murda Inc imo

So if Big/Bad Boy still had that power, he would've still been in the second tier IMO
