Man what happened to RnB GROUPS?

Jodeci, Blackstreet, 112 and H-town were all groups. Main problem now is corporations got a hold of everything.

People who grew up in previous decades(even up thru the early-mid 00's), supported great R&B/Soul music even thru the changes from groups to more solo acts....from live instruments to all synth based New Jack swing stuff and back around again to a mixture....etc.

You will not hear R&B on urban radio even from a current great like an R. Kelly, anymore.

It's dead now. Even if ur in ur mid-late 20's or whatever you have to listen to ur parents(age 45+) R&B station to hear any of it.

It's even said to see Usher go from My Way(97'), 8701(01'), Confessions(04') :lawd: to Here I Stand(08'), Raymond v. Raymond(10'), Looking 4 Myself(12'). :scusthov::huhldup::mindblown:

These days, just being able to sing aint cutting it... the masses want somebody who's attractive, dresses well, can dance, can sing, etc.

unless ur white.

ie Adele, and others etc.

But I cant give them too much criticism b/c the UK overall seems to appreciate R&B/Soul as much as ever

yeah,, ,if you notice Usher best stff was with Jimmy Jam & Lewis and B. Cox. On that R vs R album, the best two tracks were the ones produced by Jam & Lewis....but he's slowly moved away from them over the years.

the tradition of R&B frontmen going solo isnt new.

Also, 4 brand new "good looking" dudes were more markeable to women fans as opposed to just one dude alone. So there was that....and then after while the main guy breaks off on his own.

But the money messed everything up. Alot of times the lead singer was clearly the best in the group but had to split checks w/ the lesser talented guys.

Adele is the fat UK version of Taylor Swift... she's gonna push that "i'm strong cause i've been hurt" angle for about 5 more albums.

but if you noticed, black america doesn't really fukk with white singers like that these days... Robin Thicke,Pink and Jon B worked, cause they were presented correctly. Hipster looking Robin Thicke woulda got no play in urban markets, Pink pretty much is pop-rock today, and Jon B looks like he can file your taxes now.

Take a look at all the really big White acts of recent history too

NSYNC,Madonna,Backstreet Boys, Britney,Christina...all of them sang and danced.

Funny you said that :skip:, because I was looking for Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis on the producers list when Here I Stand came out and I was like :wtf: No Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis have made hits over 3 decades. :ohlawd:

Let's be honest, black folks took a hit in the soul department the past few decades.....since when can white people sing with emotion and pain and we cant:mindblown:...on a mainstream level I'm startin to see it.

Its sumthin to be said for the fact a lot of these old rnb acts grew up singin up in the church, probaly why many of them became drug addicts and sex deviants when they tasted the fame and success, but nonetheless they had soul....a lot of acts today lack what it seems u can only get from growin up singin in church:pachaha:

My og blame hiphop and says is the fact the music really ain't poetic that this generation listens to,so the song writers for rnb often times write songs like how a rapper would write a rnb song....I don't agree fully cuz I'm sure song writers still listen to old rnb and soul music for inspiration more than they do hiphop.

Black music as a whole just lacks soul to me...and lack of poetic value in the words overall.

Black culture as a whole has taken a dip. It started when we wanted to prove we was into more then just rap and R&B.
