There's really no difference between mainstream rap and R&B now, the "collabo" really killed R&B something serious.

THIS, niccas.

Let the r&b nicca/broad do their own thing without some random mawfucca with a rag on droppin' their corny-ass bars on it PLEASE...and vice versa. These r&b niglets are not Nate Dogg, and are not necessary on the hook.

Buh buh but my female co worker was singing "im about to diiiiveeeee iiinnnnn"....
Is that Trey Songz or Usher?

I know they both have a song out talking about something about Dive In or something. :comeon:

Usher disappoints me. The nikka has old 50 million albums, probably has a ton of money and has completely abandoned R&B when HE's the main one who could do whatever and be successful. He didnt need to go techno pop route. It's cool in spaces, I'm all for artistry, but to completely abandon R&B is lame.

"How y'all gonna stand by and let our music turn into pop/techno/ cornball/a** music."- Erykah Badu.

It's really a lost cause. Like I said, peoples minds have been trained to accept quick 3 min songs, repetitive chorus, dumbed down lyrics and melodies.

ONLY way it would change is a full on force feeding of good R&B music on urban radio. People will listen and eventually adapt but it'd take a few years :manny:

Also, Timbaland is partly to blame for the decline in slower music :birdman:

If 12 Play only had 5-6 songs on it, it might be the GOAT album....but the remainder of the uptempo songs were awful.

The ballads were SO STRONG though....same with Jodeci around that time. The ballads were exceptional, but the uptempos SUCKED.

Nah, while I dont agree that 12 Play is the GOAt r&B album, or even anywhere close to it...from start to end it might not even be in my top 3 R. Kelly albums, BUT it's not the beginning of the end.

But R. Kelly did contribute to the beginning of the end with TP2.....as great as that album was, it started the whole R&B thug-sing-talk/rap movement, which everyone else copied afterwards.

And black people DO have creative outlets, maybe now more than ever with the ease of making music on computers......they just have no role models anymore. When every song is made using 1 or 2 notes on a keyboard or arpegiattors, it doesnt foster or encourage great muscianship like we used to have.

And the younger gens brains have been trained to find anything slow, or without a super reptitive chorus to be "boring".

Dont get me wrong, I like & can appreciate even ignorant ass rap like 2Chainz, it's not what I'm limited to.
when i said creative outlet i meant a music genre where black people can bust out some instruments and compose (no sampling), there should be a genre for black people thats completely different from rap... it still can "hip hop"

and yes the sing/rap movement definitely hurt black music, young black kids now days give the :rudy: look when they hear some extreme soulful voice on black radio, white people have taken the soul these days

the sing/rap movement was welcomed because it gave nikkas comfort that they can do that too, as opposed to the extreme soulful singing we're known for, thats a gifted talent

sometimes i feel that we african americans are a defeated group of people

No disrespect but 90's r&b sans boys 2 men and some Whitney was trash. Best decade for true soulful shyts was 60's and 70's. Hasn't been matched since.

you really just made this up...cause it's not true.

besides, you're forgetting about how there are a ton of people who can sing, but are just unmarketable...cause they have no personality...and they end up being songwriters for people.

The Rap/Sing trend killed R&B cause EVERYBODY was trying to do it.. and then it got to the point where if you sang, you had to do shyt with rappers or you weren't getting noticed...then everybody wanted to do hooks.

the only people who made it thru that, were the ones who didn't venture too far into hip hop, or established a solid fanbase before the trend.

These days, just being able to sing aint cutting it... the masses want somebody who's attractive, dresses well, can dance, can sing, etc.
