Well yes, a 40 year old man to be able to marry a 25 year old would have to be either exceptional or marry a woman from another culture. A more common scenario would be a 40 year old man marrying a woman in her early 30s, which at that point she is probably settling because she wants to get married.

I don't think the situation is quite as bleak as the others in this thread portray, but I certainly do believe that woman who wait until their 30s to get married usually have to settle for men they wouldn't of dated in their prime.

That's why you analyze their dataset, the exact methodology they used to model the relationships of interest, and verify that they controlled for the correct things. In case you missed it, research 101 also tells you to pay attention to those things I just mentioned.
