The knife that Walt grabbed in season 2, episode 1 (when he was scared Tuco was going to show up) is the exact same knife Skyler cut him with in season 5, episode 14:

Even with all the shyt they put him through.........I still don't feel bad for Jesse.

Only time I felt bad for him was when Walt dropped that final bombshell on him.....But then I remembered WHY Walt watched her die and I stopped feeling bad for him.

That's not why they picked the knife for that scene.

They intentionally picked that knife because it went from Walt using it to protect his family, to it being used on Walt by his family. The writer of that ep:

after rewatching the episode, the opening is perfect. how walt practices lying to skyler, talk about the baby, the knife, the five bucks skyler is trying to make on ebay, the pants, jesse being a dumbass in the background, etc.
