I wouldn’t call these girls soul, especially not against the names you just posted like erykah, Jill, etc except snoh and some of kali. And it’s like the same two people post that janine chick in the same way I post Niia - they ain’t popping.Plus this Janine woman, you see I even forgot about Kali Uchis, these artists are the biggest artists in the genre right now, just check their views, it’s just something I’ve been noticing ever more recently, there’s a time I could name Jill Scott Angie Stone Erykah Badu India Arie Lauryn Hill Amel
Laurrieux Goapele Ledisi without thinking I just think the number of black women souk singers are even dying down or being pushed to the back burners?
There is a soul scene over in them Norwegian countries, can’t be mad at them for appreciating and making that type of music.
But as far as these girls, they’ve carved a lane and have music people go to for something - it’s “bae music” and it’s easy to throw the hashtag “#mood” on on your social media. But these girls haven’t cracked radio, they still have a ceiling.
And There are still way more black female singers, we didn’t even get into Ella mai, khelani, jhene, solange, Tiffany gouche, nao, jazmine Sullivan, mereeba, Jamila woods, etc. black music is just “bigger” so there’s not just one sound black women are going after whereas there is only about 1-2 sounds these non black singers do
