I don't know about "forced", but don't forget that they're living in two places at once. They might have a mortgage to pay in expensive-ass New York AND have to rent an apartment in expensive-ass D.C. Taking care of their family on that salary. Plus all the costs of being on the go constantly, eating all your food out, dressing up to the office and probably having to keep the wardrobe available in both places.Congresspeople make $174K, ain’t nobody forced to sleep in their office bro

My thing is the median income of DC is about a third of the congressional income, so “tough” is relative. I believe congressional income should be indexed to median income of district or something.
I agree with what you say about tough being relative. Like I said, I wouldn't have trouble making it. But I'd also be one of the ones sleeping in my office to save a buck - and why rent an apartment to only use parttime in a city where people have trouble finding places?
