I don't want to make excuses for Alex as he's been terrible for most of his career and even last year was very inconsistent.. however, we can't lay the blame of my team's lack of success over the past 8 years all on him. There is plenty of blame to go around including piss poor coaches and multiple OC's that did not know what they were doing.

The thing Alex needs to realize though is that Harbaugh limited what he was doing for a reason. He simplified everything for Alex and put him in the best possible positions to excel. Alex with a different coach would probably have shyt out the same results we were used to. He has no excuses this year. We have the best WR corps that we've had since Owens/Rice. Time to wreck shop or stfu.

It's not entirely his fault they were losing but he did play a major role.

The point is, Alex Smith sucks. Cam Newton is a better QB than he is after just one season, and there is no reason for Smith to discredit Cam's rookie season.

Let's be honest about Cam though. He is an incredible athlete with a ton of potential but he is also very lucky to be with a team that catered to his abilities. A lot of QB's with mobility are made to change the way they play once they get into the league and it ruins them.

as for this topic, alex is right. yards ARE an overblown stat but he picked a bad example talking about cam.

While I disagree about his Cam analysis, he's dead on about passing yards per game being an overrated stat, especially in this Steroid offense era. Yards per attempt is a much better stat.
