QB rating is a useless stat.

In a game by game basis it is, but when you look at a season or a career, it's a pretty good stat.

Look at the top 5 and bottom 5 in QB rating and that's a pretty accurate depiction of who is the best and who is the worst that year.

2011

1. Rodgers
2. Brees
3. Brady
4. Romo
5. Stafford

28. Tebow
29. Grossman
30. Bradford
31. Ponder
32. Skelton

Now tell me that's not a pretty damn accurate assessment of the best and worst QB's of 2011 off the top of the head.

Not really because it's not a good measure of the defense's that people go against. the situations, the type of team they're on, the weapons available to them, etc. It just measures statistics that the best QBs tend to pile up. It's correlated but I don't buy it. It's why guys like Romo have some of the highest QB ratings ever. It's why a guy like Stafford was rated so high last year.

Say what you want but QBR and the DVAR/DVOA system used by football outsiders are CLEARLY superior metrics.

Qbr is a bit better but it has its own problems. Its main ‘feature’ is that it weighs stats according to situation. But it also can be erroneous-qb is down by 3 TDs and makes a comeback, the first TD is counted the least while the last one is weighted the most positively…kinda absurd if you ask me.

Qbs, WRs and DBs are hardest positions toughest to judge by any conventional stats really without knowing routes and schemes. Too many variables.

I'd still take:

Vick
Cam
Romo
Rivers
Stafford
Sanchez

and these nikkas are having a bad year. Alex Smith is barely top 15. :childplease:

Also lastemp you keep saying Smith is in his second year under Harbaugh so shouldn't Cutler have the excuse of being in his first year under a new offensive coordinator? As s far as the arrogance lots of arrogant individuals have been part of winning championships in team sports it may be difficult but not impossible.

Funny how @LastEmperor2k2 avoided this post.
