it might be a blow, but one that gavin can afford since black people are only like 6% of the california population. the governor was always going to make an appointment that benefits him politically.
It really isn’t because he intends to run for president and that shyt won’t play well then. I also don’t particularly care about representation if it’s only skin-deep. In theory there are two black men in the senate, but do brothers really care about Tim Scott or think that he stands for us in any way?

no, that's not HL's motto...

B Lee been putting in work before Bernie ever gained a "bro" and HL is perfectly fine with progressives that aren't beholden to bernie bro, down talking the electorate, know it all, rose twitter... plenty of love for lee, pressley, porter, and warren
Bernie is a fraud, he didn't even create Bernie Bros. That was workshopped years before.

That's wild. I almost can't believe Cali has never had a Latino senator before, but, cacs gonna cac. :francis:

But some people are mad:

:jbhmm:

:snoop:Corporate-friendly Idpol will tear the Dems apart while the fascists search for Trump 2.0

This is some of the dumbest shyt I’ve ever seen and a perfect example of how toxic identity politics have become. Kamala Harris is technically the president of the senate - well, she will be when she becomes VP next month. If dems win the two Georgia seats, it becomes a 50-50 tie that turns into a Democrat majority because Harris will be the tie breaker.

There will be a special election for this seat. A black person could win it back. Those tweets are madness and frankly if I was Hispanic I’d be weirded out by that nonsense.

I still don't see why people are mad that a state that was once apart of Mexico is finally getting a MEXICAN senator :heh:

If people want to be mad, then they should be mad at states with larger Black populations that have NEVER had a Black senator (either since Reconstruction or never at all). Pressure should be put on states like Maryland, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, etc NOT California.

Delaware "technically" has a Black female senator (Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester) but she's in the House. Delaware is small enough that their House Rep. is elected statewide (it's called an "at-large" district).

some of this identity politics emphasis is getting a little :hubie:

i dont mean on this particular seat, just in general. i feel like we've heard more about who bidens cabinet is than what their qualifications are

like its great that mayor pete blows his husband, but does that make him the best person in america who was qualified to be the transportation secretary? i cant in good faith say that the answer is yes :upsetfavre:

Above the fray.

The idea that this hurts Newsom's possible presidential aspirations doesn't add up.
There will be a proper election for this Senate seat in two years. Padilla had already won a statewide election to become Cali Sec.of State, and the odds of him retaining the Senate seat are probably high.
If/when the challengers lose to Padilla in 2022, that's what voters will remember. Not Newsom's selection from this year , but who the voters elected to the Senate in '22.

But anyways black people lost, again. California, which is 1000 percent democrat, is a microcosm of how black people will be treated with democrats in power

What the fuk is idpol?
idpol = "identity politics"

California is not "1000 percent democrat" :dahell:

Also, it makes complete sense in a state with a 40% Latino population to appoint a Latino senator...when they've never had one.
